Tucson - - - Well, another Arizona State USBC Jamboree is in the books.
This year, Tucson Metro hosted the event which was held at the Viscount Hotel Inn and Suites during the weekend of October 5-7. The jamboree is a yearly gathering of USBC Associations from through out the State of Arizona. Who are brought up to date on rule changes and other news from USBC Western Regional Manager Dave Prange. Dave always delivers an interesting work shop and this year as always, he did not disappoint those in attendance.
Among some of the rule changes he brought us up to date on are as follows:
Rule #303 - Requires all tournament managers to be members of the USBC.
Rule #319 A - Removes requirement for tournament managers to use printed yearly average books in tournaments.
Rule # 325 - Teams bowling alone can now set their own pace.
He also brought some good news to those in attendance regarding by-laws:
* B-3 # Allows states to have two at large directors.
* Every association in the country has now merged with the USBC.
The USBC is also in the process of making several equipment specifications that will start to go into effect on August 1, 2019. For instance, bowlers will not be allowed to use a towel to put a substance on their bowling ball. Shammies will still be allowed.
Come August 1, 2020, balance holes will no longer be allowed when it comes to drilling bowling balls. This is being done to protect the playing environment for the future. Eliminating balance holes will also set a new specification for oil absorption and will limit the hook potential of a bowling ball.
An association shootout followed the work shop at Lucky Strike Bowl in Tucson. 16 teams participated in this years tournament. Dinner and a fund-raiser followed the shootout at Lucky Strike Bowl.
Mesa Metro and Greater White Mountain hosted the annual jamboree the past two years. Metro Phoenix will host the jamboree in 2019.
