GCU Bowling: January Recap
The collegiate bowling schedule heats up during the month of January. The tournaments the Lopes competed in included the Devil’s Duel, Antelope Shoot-Out, Sin City Open, and Rebel Classic. The Men’s team showed incredible consistency, posting 2nd place finishes in all four of the events. Their finish at the Rebel Classic is the high Tier 1 finish in school history, besting the mark they set with a T3rd finish in December at the Las Vegas Invitational. They were led by solid individual performances from Cameron Smith, Joshua Mabry, and Kyle Reed. The Men’s JV team highlighted the depth of the program as they went undefeated throughout the month! Alex Washburn, Justin Song, and Matthew Green led them in their championship efforts. The Lady Lopes struggled a bit in Las Vegas, but a couple of strong individual performances kept their spirits high. Emily Ornelas won the individual title at the Sin City Open and Correen Lieber made the All-Tournament Team (3rd Place) at the Rebel Classic!
Our regular season has come to a close, so the team will use the month of February to prepare for postseason competition in March. If you’d like to follow the team’s progress, give our page, “Grand Canyon University Bowling” a like on Facebook, or follow them at @GCUBowling on Twitter!
