Mesa - - - If you've gotten to know Bob Dault throughout the years as a member of the Mesa Metro Association, you have come to know he is passionate about two things: being an avid bowler, and being involved as a volunteer by helping to raise money for the BVL charity.
If you have also ever wondered why the Mesa Metro Association has been able to raise over $45,000 the last five years for this charity, it's because of his drive and dedication in helping the vets live a stress-free life after their service to our country. He did this during the annual fundraising drive that starts in November, by visiting leagues within the MMA and selling 50/50 raffle tickets.
The MMA HOF nominating committee in return, said thanks to him by electing him into its HOF, during the annual meeting which took place on May 19, at Bowlero Gilbert. He joins his wife, Marcia, who was elected into the then Mesa Valley Womens Bowling Association (MVWBA) HOF in 2002. Bob was enshrined for Meritorious Service and Marcia for Superior Performance. Marcia started on the Mesa Valley Women's Bowling Association board in 1997 as a director. And continued until 2015, when she served as president of the Mesa Metro Association. She was president of the MMA for five years. The MVWBA merged to become the MMA.
"I was very excited to be nominated," he said, when he found out he was nominated by the HOF committee. "It is an amazing honor to have both of us in the Hall Of Fame."
To understand why he is so successful at what he does, you have to be out there helping him sell 50/50 tickets like we did at the tenpinexpress.com. He never took no for an answer, and always got the 'hard to get' bowlers to donate.
"It meant a lot to help the veterans who gave so much to our country, and our way of life," said Bob, of being involved with the BVL fundraising. But, by being involved as a volunteer it was his own special way of saying 'Thank You!' back to them.
He also believes he has a gift as to why he is good at being a volunteer.
"I always ask for the $5 donation, hoping everyone will take that, which they usually do," he says, of the $5 donation that yields 20 tickets. "I always ask the winners to see if they will donate some of their winnings back to the vets. I always talk to everyone including the guests."
At the annual national USBC convention in April, in Las Vegas, the MMA was awarded a fourth place recognition plaque from the national BVL committee at its breakfast ceremony on Tuesday April 30. This was for raising $15,000 among local/large associations during the 2017-18 season.
"We talk to everyone, and the bowlers in the MMA are a very giving bunch of bowlers," he says, of why the MMA has been as successful as it has been in its fundraising efforts. "Moving forward, I would like to see the MMA try to increase our amount we donate to the BVL each year."
He says the most memorable year during the last five years as a volunteer was his first in 2014.
"Beginning this journey in 2014, was the most fun," he said, of his start in helping to raise money for the BVL fund.
"My wife supports all of my efforts," he said, of Marcia. "During my acceptance speech at the annual meeting, I just said 'thank you from my heart' to everyone who helped me out."
MMA BVL committee chair Gayle Powers also emphasized that the BVL fundraising efforts could not be as successful as it is if it were not for Bob's diligence and hard work.
"I have known Bob for quite a few years. He has been helping me with the BVL, and is very passionate about our Vets," she said. "He really works hard for them doing the 50/50. Bob has gone out to more leagues than anyone. He went to every center and found out when the non-sanctioned leagues were bowling, too. He is one of the reasons we raised the most money we ever have. He has also gone to tournaments and done the 50/50 for the kids' program. He is very deserving of this honor."
Bob's most memorable moment in the game of bowling was bowling a 300 game. He also says having the whole family involved in the game of bowling 'is great competition'.
So, when you see the MMA out-and-about this coming November doing the 50/50 BVL fundraising again, Bob will surely be involved. If you don't buy a ticket directy from Bob, buy some anyway! Remember the Vets and say 'thank you' for the freedoms we have in this great country!
