GCU Has An Impressive Showing

The Oak Tree Open and Floria Financial Services Open are in the books! Each of our squads has a lot to be proud of. The Ladies took down San Jose State both days. While the Men's JV Team posted back to back second place finishes, and the Men's Varsity team bounced back from a disappointing 2nd place finish on Saturday, to lap the field for a win on Sunday! We will have a full recap coming your way soon. Thank you everyone for all of the support and big shout to our assistant coach, Cameron Smith, for all of his hard work this weekend! #

Josh Mullen wins first title at AMF Union Hills!

Our event this weekend was at AMF Union Hill lanes. The event drew 56 total entries (45 qualifying & 11 parlays), had 18 cashers, a 1 in 3.1 cash ratio and paid out over $3,200.00 in main and side event prize funds! The players bowled on the 48ft Eiffel Tower oil pattern that had matched up well with some bowlers to produce some very high scores on the fresh.  Most players were playing straight at the headpin or just left of 3rd arrow and it seemed that the players that could control their ball speeds or had a higher rev rate did well throughout the day. It was a quirky pattern and was a change of pace for the regulars who haven't bowled on a long pattern in a while.

As always, we want to welcome our first-time bowlers to the SFT AHT family!  Welcome Anthony "AJ" Rodriguez, Samantha Rodriguez, Michael Starliper and Carl Spencer our bowling family!  We hope you all had a good time at your first event and we look forward to seeing you at the next one! Also, congrats to Daniel Austin and Robert Behrendt for making it to the quarterfinals through our $25 economy parlay.  We always have one or two bowlers that are able to get through and cash in the quarterfinals from the economy parlay and it's always great to see players taking advantage of the affordable parlay.  There were also a few bowlers that haven't been in the quarterfinals in a while, so congrats to Ernie Mendoza, Josh Mullen, David Vanderleest and Kevin Long!  Your winner of the free plastic bowling ball, with an option to upgrade to any Track high performance ball for $85.00, was AJ Rodriguez!

The quarterfinals had similar scoring as qualifying, with marginal scoring but certain players really bowling well.  Also since there was only five bowlers per division, the top bowler from each division would move straight into the Finals.  The overall #1 seed going into the Final match was Daniel Austin, from the C Division, at +79.  The A Division was led by Josh Mullen at +75 and the B Division leader was Carlos Vejar at +29.

Going into our Final match, Daniel Austin was trying to go three for three in AHT SFT title matches, while Carlos and Josh were looking for their first titles.  Since Daniel was the overall #1 seed, then he was able to select the lanes and the order that the Final match would go in.  The final match was a back and forth affair with each of the bowlers trying to feel out the lanes.  Daniel struggled with the ball over hooking and going through the nose leaving some tough spares.  Carlos and Josh both stayed fairly clean leaving single pin spares and it would all come down to who could get lined up first.  Carlos jumped out to a small lead when Josh missed a ten pin in the 3rd frame and he was able to convert all his spares.  Josh was finally able to line up in the 7th frame, throwing a powerful strike to kick out the ten pin.  Josh was able to throw the next six strikes to seal his victory with a nice 240 game.  Carlos would finish in 2nd place and Daniel would finish in 3rd.  This is Josh's first SFT AHT title and he took home $725.00 for the win! Congrats to everyone that made the quarterfinals today!

We hope to see you all next Sunday at AMF Tempe Village!  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
