Tim Jacob Wins Tucson Metro 2019 Master's Title.
Tucson Metro 2019 Master’s Champion – Tim Jacob
Congratulations to Tim Jacob! Tim is proof you should never give up. He came in second place in the Master's tournament in 2018. This year Tim was able to defeat last year’s tournament champion, Chris McHenry, in the final match to claim the championship title for himself. There were some great games bowled during the tournament this year and Tim certainly had his share with rolling a perfect "300 game" during competition. Great bowling Tim!
Special thanks go out to Caryn Bustos and her staff for hosting this tournament at Golden Pin Lanes. This will be the last Tucson Metro Tournament held at Golden Pin Lanes with the closing of the center this summer in June 2019. We thank Caryn for all the years of generosity and support she has given to Tucson Metro USBC. Thanks
to Tournament Directors Tony Viecelli and Jerry Coderre and to our Tucson Metro Association Manager, Steve Harris, for their time in running this tournament. A big thanks to all the bowlers that came out and participated in this tournament as well.

GCU Makes Their Debut At ITC's In Dayton. Story Courtesy Of GCU.
By David Carter/GCU Club Sports Web Marketing Intern
The season is not yet over for the GCU Men’s Bowling team.
After earning a 9th-place finish at the Collegiate Club Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana, ten days ago, they have plenty to look forward to. This coming weekend, they will compete in the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC) Nationals in Dayton, Ohio. They qualified for the event after finishing 4th at the ITC Sectionals tournament in Dallas, Texas last month.
“We are pumped,” said Lopes’ Head Coach Ben Canfield on the team’s excitement in being a part of the 16-team tournament. “We’re really looking forward to experiencing the highest level of competition that collegiate bowling has to offer. We are going in with confidence, and we expect to make some noise while we are out there.”
Although making the trip to nationals is a first for the program, they’re not just heading to the Buckeye State to ‘make an appearance’.
“We are one of two teams making our ITC debut,” said Canfield. “It is a whole new experience for us. We are good enough to make it out there, and we do not want to set a goal of making less than a deep run at the tournament.”
“I look forward going out to Dayton, and bowling with some of my best friends to compete for an ITC national title for the first time in school history,” added Lopes’ bowler Joshua Mabry. “With the team we have, we can do some really special things, and we can carry that into next year as well.”
GCU enters the tournament ranked No. 32 on the 2018-2019 CollegeBowling.com’s final Online Team Ranking for the season. Some notable teams that will be competing at the ITC Nationals include No. 3 McKendree University (the defending ITC National Champions), No. 5 Wichita State University, and No. 10 William Penn University. All three of those teams finished ahead of the Lopes at the ITC Sectionals in Dallas.
In Dayton, the Lopes will bowl 24 baker games in qualifying which will seed them in a double elimination bracket at the tournament, which runs Thursday through Saturday, April 18-20. Qualifying for the men’s final is Thursday morning, match play runs Thursday night and all day on Friday, with the finals set for Saturday.

Kevin Convirs wins 1st title at Brunswick Desert Sky! SFT News Courtesy Of SFT.
Our event this weekend was quite a bit smaller than expected due to the holiday weekend and other events going on. We were still happy to see a total of 56 entries (33 qualifying & 23 economy parlay), creating 18 cashers, a 1 in 3.1 cash ratio and a pay out of over $1,500.00 in main and side event prize funds. The players bowled on a very difficult 39ft Beijing oil pattern that yielded some pretty low scores, with lower scores in the A Division than any other Division. Being a medium length oil pattern, it did allow players to play a variety of angles, but that did cause players to try more overall options which sometimes caused them to split or lose focus on overall shot making.
We do want to welcome Clayton Thompson, Roy Ruth Sr, and William Brown to the SFT bowling club! We hope you all had a great time at your first event! We appreciate you joining us! Congrats to Roy Ruth Sr., on advancing to the quarterfinals on his first try! Nice bowling! Also, congrats to Roy Miele and Travis Brown on making their first ever quarterfinals or their first quarterfinals in quite a while.
The quarterfinals were bowled on fresh conditions and it showed. The scores were fairly low, and the bowlers struggled with the fresh conditions. The key to advancing was converting makeable spares. Since the cut ration to the semi-finals is 1 in 3 and there were less than 6 quarterfinals per division, the winners of each division would move directly into the Final match. The A Division winner was Kevin Convirs at -10, while the B Division winner was Ray Mobilia at +74 and C Division winner was Roy Ruth Sr, at +14.
The Final match was a close one going back and for the whole time. Coming down to the 10th Kevin Convirs had a small lead and finished last in the match. Ray finished first and split on his first ball and Roy did the same which gave Kevin a more relaxed 10th frame and he was able to strike and seal up his first ever SFT AHT title! Ray finished 2nd, and Roy 3rd! We will see you all next weekend at AMF Chandler.
