1st Annual Maricopa Military Team Classic Tournament At Ten Pins Down In Maricopa.

Mesa - - - Uncle Sam wants you!

The Casa Grande Valley USBC wants you!

The Mesa Metro USBC wants you!

But, more importantly. Ten Pins Down at the Ultrastar Entertainment complex in Maricopa. Wants you to come out and support the 1st Annual Maricopa Military Team Classic on September 28-29.

The team and doubles tournament is open to: active duty, veterans, retired service members and guests. Each team must include at least two players with a military backround, and may include a maximum of two guests. A team will consist of four bowlers, and a doubles team of two bowlers.

Squad times on both days will be at 8:30 am, and 12:30 pm. The handicap will be 90% of 220 for the optional six game all-events division. Entry fee for each event is $30 per bowler per event, and all entries will be accepted by the MMA until September 14, 2019.

To get an entry form you may visit bowlmesa.com, or email the MMA @ bowlmesa.com. Bowlers who are bowling with a military backround, must present proof of military service at the tournament site.

The purpose of holding this tournament. Is to provide a venue to honor military service, while allowing competition for title and prize money.

Las Vegas has always ran a very successful 'Military High Rollers' tournament in August. An event in which a team from the Mesa Metro Association won two years ago.

"I have been to a military bowling tournament in Las Vegas," said MMA Vice-President Bob Schreiber, who along with board member Julie Barrett, will serve as Tournament Directors. "The military tournament is in August in Las Vegas. Ours is in September. I was looking at this, as why don't we do one in Arizona? Why should Las Vegas get all of the glory."

When the MMA, along with Casa Grande, finally sat down together to talk about it and finally decided to give this a try. The promotional work on the event began.

"One, by word of mouth," said Schreiber, of how the promotional part of this event began. "And two, get the tournament fliers out to the bases. And, to all of the American Legion Post in Arizona."

The team from the MMA that won the 'Military High Rollers' in Las Vegas two years ago. Conisted of team members: Don Caron, Eric Flick, Barry Gillitick, Joe Hart, Steve Jones, and Johnny Wing Sr. Three of them are MMA Hall of Famers, and all of them bowl in Metro 880 League on Thursday Nights at Bowlero Mesa.

Located at 16000 North Maricopa Rd., in Maricopa. 10 Pins Down is part of the UltraStar AZ. Entertainment Complex, which is adjacent to Harrahs Ak Chin Hotel and Casino.

"When I first thought of having the tournament, I wanted to have it centralized. The venue had to have a hotel, motel close by. Then if teams came with their families, we needed a place with entertainment (with both the young and the adults in mind) as well as resturaunts," added the MMA VP. "The Ak-Chin UltraStar venue made the most sense."

If you have bowled in the 'Military High Roller' in the past, in Las Vegas. Both the Casa Grande USBC and the MMA USBC have agreed that it would be ran similar in nature, and that you should not expect any surprises once you arrive at the tournament site.

"We will be similar to the tournament in Las Vegas," added the VP. "Ak Chin and Casa Grande both agreed that this was the ideal location to have the tournament."

We will continue to update this information until the week of the tournament on September 28-29.

Stay tuned!

Dan Lanious wins 2nd title in a row at AMF Union Hills! SFT News Courtesy OF SFT.

Our event this weekend was at AMF Union Hills and we had a nice turnout! We had 67 entries (20 parlay & 47 qualifying), 22 cashers, a 1 in 3.1 cash ratio and paid out over $2,000.00 in main and side event prize funds!  The players bowled on a 43ft Mexico City oil pattern that for the most part was low scoring on the fresh, but scores went up as the day went on. The bowlers that had success were able to play in the middle of the lane and keep their ball inside the ten board at the breakpoint.  If you got it too far outside, then the ball wouldn't come back and leave you with a washout or split.  The average cut scores were all around the +40 to +50 range, which meant most players had to bowl above their average.

We want to welcome some of the new bowlers that joined us for this event. Rae-Anne Parks and Luke Sullivan bowled in their first SFT AHT event this weekend and Rae-Anne even made it to the quarterfinals in her first event!  We hope you all had a good time and hope to see you at our future events!  Congrats to James Bungard, Jordan Potts and James Fitting on also making their first quarterfinals! We also want to congratulate Jason Tunay on being our only Parlay Power Player this weekend.  Jason was able to advance to the quarterfinals off his $25 Economy Parlay entry! Congrats to Michael Dragon for winning Momma's Mystery Pot, with a 203, for $40!  Too bad it wasn't one of the three $500.00 Momma's Pots that are currently available, maybe next time!  Also, congrats to Kevin Dollar for winning the free plastic ball raffle with an option to upgrade to any Track high-performance ball for $85.00!!!

The quarterfinals, like the rest of the event, were low scoring with the standings tight and being determined by the final game of the quarterfinals.  In the A Division, your #1 seed would be Carlos Vejar (-2) and he would have to take on William Milho (-5).  The B and C Divisions would cut down to the top bowler in each division, since the cut ratio is 1 in 3 and there were only 5 bowlers in the quarterfinals for both of those Divisions.  Your leader in the B Division was Jim Bungard (+67) and in the C Division it would be Dan Lanious (+66).  Both Jim and Dan would be seeded directly into the final match.   In the A Division Semi-final match would see William Milho take an early lead.  Carlos Vejar would throw a few clutch strikes to even things up going into the tenth.  Carlos would throw a strike in the tenth to force William Milho to go off the sheet in the tenth to try to tie.  William would strike on his first ball but would split on his second shot giving Carlos the win, 205 to 193.

Going into the Final match the favorite would have to be Dan Lanious.  Dan just won his first title last weekend at AMF Tempe Village and was looking to go back to back.  Carlos Vejar was looking at getting his 3rd title and newcomer Jim Bungard making his first Finals appearance in only his 2nd tournament.

The Finals would start off with Carlos striking on three of his first four frames to take an early lead.  Jim was able to strike on the right lane but would struggle the whole game with the left lane.  Dan was able to stay clean and threw a few timely strikes in the 2nd, 4th and 5th frames.  Halfway through the match and it was back and forth between Carlos and Dan.  Carlos would double in the eight and ninth frames to set him self up to win in the tenth.  Dan was able to stay clean too and it would all come down to the final frame.  Carlos was up first in the tenth, but his shot went a little long leaving the bucket (2-4-5-8) plus the 7 pin, which he was unable to pick up.  Dan would go up and get good count to give him his 2nd AHT SFT title and $675.00!  Congrats to Carlos on 2nd place and Jim Bungard on 3rd place in only his 2nd event.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the event!  We hope to see you all next Sunday at AMF Chandler Lanes!
