The purpose of holding this tournament. Is to provide a venue to honor military service, while allowing competition for title and prize money.

Las Vegas has always ran a very successful 'Military High Rollers' tournament in August. An event in which a team from the Mesa Metro Association won two years ago.

"I have been to a military bowling tournament in Las Vegas," said MMA Vice-President Bob Schreiber, who along with board member Julie Barrett, will serve as Tournament Directors. "The military tournament is in August in Las Vegas. Ours is in September. I was looking at this, as why don't we do one in Arizona? Why should Las Vegas get all of the glory."

When the MMA, along with Casa Grande, finally sat down together to talk about it and finally decided to give this a try. The promotional work on the event began.

"One, by word of mouth," said Schreiber, of how the promotional part of this event began. "And two, get the tournament fliers out to the bases. And, to all of the American Legion Post in Arizona."

The team from the MMA that won the 'Military High Rollers' in Las Vegas two years ago. Conisted of team members: Don Caron, Eric Flick, Barry Gillitick, Joe Hart, Steve Jones, and Johnny Wing Sr. Three of them are MMA Hall of Famers, and all of them bowl in Metro 880 League on Thursday Nights at Bowlero Mesa.

Located at 16000 North Maricopa Rd., in Maricopa. 10 Pins Down is part of the UltraStar AZ. Entertainment Complex, which is adjacent to Harrahs Ak Chin Hotel and Casino.

"When I first thought of having the tournament, I wanted to have it centralized. The venue had to have a hotel, motel close by. Then if teams came with their families, we needed a place with entertainment (with both the young and the adults in mind) as well as resturaunts," added the MMA VP. "The Ak-Chin UltraStar venue made the most sense."

If you have bowled in the 'Military High Roller' in the past, in Las Vegas. Both the Casa Grande USBC and the MMA USBC have agreed that it would be ran similar in nature, and that you should not expect any surprises once you arrive at the tournament site.

"We will be similar to the tournament in Las Vegas," added the VP. "Ak Chin and Casa Grande both agreed that this was the ideal location to have the tournament."

We will continue to update this information until the week of the tournament on September 28-29.

Stay tuned!

Glendale - - -Opened in 1956, Glenfair Lanes signed on as an official partner with GCU Men’s and Women’s Bowling in 2017, and has been their main practice home ever since. The facility, which houses nearly 40 lanes, also hosted the annual Devil’s Duel and Antelope Shootout Tournament for the first time in the winter of 2019.

Glenfair is one of the few family-owned and operated bowling centers in Arizona. Besides its popular in-house tournaments at least once a month, Glenfair also features a 2,000-square-foot arcade with seven pool tables. The snack bar features tons of finger foods as well as wings, burgers and even Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. That’s why it’s called “Your Family Entertainment Bowling Center”.

Lisa Perez wins 1st title & $1,000 at Bowlero Avondale! Story Courtesy Of SFT.

Avondale - - - Our event this weekend was at Bowlero Avondale lanes and had a great turn out!  We had 105 total entries (65 qualifying & 40 economy parlay) for 3 squads, 28 prize winners and a 1 in 3.75 cash ratio and paid out over $5,900 in main and side event prize funds.  The players bowled on the 43ft Brunswick Phantom oil pattern that was a very low scoring event. Players could play in just about any part of the lane, but there wasn't a lot of margin of error and the pair to pair differences were also tough.

We want to welcome Lisa Perez, Michael Boglio, Patrick Jones, Eric Cooke, Terry Newsome, Chrissy Wheeler, Eric Bryson, Quintin White and Ivory Carson to the SFT AHT family! We hope you guys all had a good time in your first SFT AHT event. Congrats to Lisa Perez and Kyle Wakefield on being this weekend's only Parlay Power Players, both Kyle and Lisa made it to the quarterfinals on their $25 investment. Also congrats to Jason Bach, Kyle Wakefield, Quintin White, Lisa Perez and Dave J. Smith on making it to their first ever SFT AHT quarterfinals or their first in quite a while!  Congrats to Jason Bach for winning Momma's Mystery Pot, with a 206 score, for $500.00!!!  Your winner of the free plastic ball, with an option to upgrade to any Track High-Performance ball for $85.00, was Kyle Wakefield

The quarter finals were on fresh conditions and it the scores were pretty low with the average cut score to make the next round being almost a minus score.  The A Division had #1 seed Matthew Zweig (+26) taking on #2 seed Jim Bungard (-12), in the B Division it was #1 seed Jason Bach (+32) facing off with #2 seed Kyle Wakefield (+22), and the C Division would see #1 seed Lisa Perez (+43) against #2 seed Chuck Lucas (+10).

The A division was a back and forth match with Jim Bungard able to stay clean in the final couple of frames to get by Matthew Zweig, 186 to 180. In the B Division Jason Bach would struggle to get lined up and was defeated by Kyle Wakefield, 205 to 159.  The C Division would all come down to the final frame as Lisa Perez would finish with a 242 leaving Chuck Lucas needing a strike on his first ball to advance.  Chuck's first shot came up a bit short leaving nine-pin and he would fill the tenth to finish at 233.

Going into the Final match all three bowlers were looking for their very first AHT SFT title.  Jim was making his 2nd Finals appearance in his fourth event ever.  Kyle Wakefield was bowling in his first ever Final match as was Lisa Perez.  Both bowlers were this weekend's Parlay Power Players had a chance to turn their $25 into $1,000!

The Final match was very back and forth with all of the players being in the mix for the majority of the game. However, some late opens by Jim put him the most behind, but still in the match.  Kyle was able to double in the 9th and 10th to give himself a chance but it was too little too late.  Lisa would finish well ahead with a score of 230 giving her her first AHT SFT title and $1,000!!!  Congrats to Kyle for 2nd place and Jim for 3rd place.

Thanks to everyone that came out! We look forward to seeing you all at our 3-Day Labor Day Major Event next weekend at Bowlero Kyrene.  Hope you all have a good week!!!
