Charlie Light parlays his way to a win at AMF Union Hills!!! - SFT News Courtesy Of SFT.
Our event this weekend was at AMF Union Hills and had a nice turnout with this being the holiday weekend. We had 69 total entries (50 qualifying & 19 economy parlay) for 3 squads, 21 prize winners and a 1 in 3.3 cash ratio which we paid out over $3,200 in main and side event prize funds. The players bowled on the 43ft Dean Man's Curve oil pattern that was a very difficult pattern to play on the fresh. Players had trouble playing on the outside of the lane and there wasn't a lot of margin of error when playing inside. Pair to pair saw some big differences, but once the oil pattern started to break down in the 3rd squad, then scores started to go up!
As always, we want to welcome Melissa King to the SFT AHT family! Melissa was able to make it to the quarterfinals in her very first SFT AHT event. Congrats to Charlie Light on being this weekend's only parlay power player! Charlie was able to turn his $25 into a quarterfinal's appearance! Your winner of the free plastic ball, with an option to upgrade to any Track High Performance ball for $85.00, was Ron Gonzales.
The quarterfinals were bowled on fresh conditions and it the scores were lower than the qualifying, but those that made it to the next round were able to figure out the pattern and score slightly above their average. The semi-finals were between Mike Dragon and Matthew Zweig in the A Division and Tony Greene and Chuck Lucas in the C Division. Charlie Light would be your B Division champion and would go straight to the Final match as the cut ratio to the semi-finals is 1 in 3 and there were only five bowlers in the B Division.
In the A division, there was a lot of back and forth between Matt and Mike. Matt got up in the 10th with the lead and threw a great shot, only to leave a pocket 7-10 and let Mike back into the match. Mike only needed a mark and good count now to win and he ended up missing and leaving a wash out that he could not convert and gave Matt the A Division win. In the C Division, it was some back and forth, but the end of the game Tony was able to get in a rhythm and string a few strikes to take home the win.
The final match was a very good one with all the players in it all the way up to the 8th frame. As of the 8th frame Tony was in the lead and Charlie was right behind him. Back to back opens by Tony and filling frames by Charlie allowed him to sneak out the win by just 4 pins to get his first title in quite some time! Congrats to him!
See you all next week at AMF Chandler for our final event of the 2019 season!
