Shane Smith wins 1st title at Bowlero Kyrene!!! SFT News Courtesy Of SFT.
Chandler- - - Our event this weekend was at Bowlero Kyrene and we had a great turnout with 127 entries (85 qualifying and 42 economy parlays). We had 31 cashers, a 1 in 3.96 cash ratio and paid out over $7,000.00 in main and side event prize funds. The players bowled on the 42ft PBA Scorpion oil pattern that played pretty tough for most of the day. There were some higher scores but bowlers were able to play a variety of angles on the pattern. The cut scores stayed around +60 for most of the day, which meant that you had to bowl about 10-15 pins over your average per game to qualify.
We had some new bowlers join us for their first event and we want to welcome Anthony James, Kish Israni, Dennis Stevens, Paul Herold, Gina Green and Ryan Staunton who all bowled in their first event this weekend. We hope you all had a good time and look forward to seeing you at our next event. Congrats to Kish Israni who all made it to the quarterfinals in his very first event! Also, congrats to Jack Haines for being this weekend’s only Parlay Power Player. Jack was able to qualify for the quarterfinals off his $25 parlay investment. Congrats to Dennis Stevens who won Momma’s Mystery Pot with a score of 139 for $500.00!! Your winner of the free plastic ball raffle, with an option to upgrade to any Track high-performance ball for $85.00, was Kevin Dollar.
The quarterfinals would be bowled on the fresh oil pattern and scores showed with those that could leave makeable spares and string a couple of strikes together were able to take advantage. Your A Division leader would be Jonathan Ferrell (+89) and he would face off with Justin Phillips (+35). In the B Division your overall #1 seed would be Aaron Stein (+123) and he would take on Shane Smith (+66). The C Division would see Quinten Bell (+75) emerge as your #1 seed and he would be matched up against Parlay Power Player Jack Haines (+49).
The A Division semi-final match would go back and forth with each bowler stringing strikes and trying to gain the advantage. It would come down to the tenth frame as Jonathan was unable to strike and Justin was able to punch out to win, 256 to 217. The B Division semi-final would be a grind fest as both Aaron and Shane would struggle with the lane transition. Shane would get a late double to get by Aaron, 196 to 184. In the C Division semi-final would see Quinten Bell stay clean enough to get by Jack Haines who struggled with the pair, 207 to 179.
The Final match would feature one bowler (Shane Smith) that was not in the progressive pot. The way that the Progressive Pot works is that the all the money that the bowler wins, who is not in the Progressive Pot, is redistributed to all the other quarterfinalists that are in the Progressive Pot. Justin Phillips and Shane Smith were making their first title match and looking for their first AHT SFT title. First place was paying $1,300.00 for everyone that was in the Progressive Pot. Quinten Bell would be looking for his 2nd title and he had won his first title just two months ago at this very same center.
The Final match would start off with all three bowlers trying to settle in and find the pocket. Justin Phillips would open in the first two frames, but would get lined up and start making up the hole that he put himself in. Quinten and Shane would go back and forth striking on one lane and getting nine-spare on the next. Quinten would split in the sixth frame leaving the 6-7 and open on his spare attempt. Shane would double in the sixth frame to give himself a slight lead. Justin would keep picking up his spares to keep himself in the match and would keep pace throughout the match.
Going into the tenth frame we would see Justin finish up first by punching out with all three strikes in the tenth to finish at 198 and put pressure on Shane and Quinten. Next to finish would be Quinten and he would need a strike on his first ball in the tenth to have a chance at passing Justin. Quinten’s first ball looked good off his hand, but would hit the pocket leave an unfortunate 7-pin. Quinten would pick up the spare and strike on his fill ball to finish at 196. Finally Shane would get up and only need good count as he was working on off a double in the eighth and ninth frame. Shane’s first shot would go a bit high through the nose and leave the 3-10 baby split. Shane would miss his spare attempt, but would go home with the win with a score of 210 giving him his 1st SFT AHT title and $650.00!!! Since Shane was not in the Progressive Pot he received only half of the projected first place prize of $1,300.00, making a lot of the other quarterfinalists very happy. Congrats to Justin Phillips on 2nd place and also to Quinten Bell for 3rd place.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support our final event of the 2020 season. We hope to see you next Saturday for our Match Play Invitational and our Year End Awards Banquet at Mesa East Bowl. If we don’t see you, then we wish you have a happy holiday season and keep a look out as we finalize our events for next season.
