Glendale, Ariz. – Ron Mohr, from Las Vegas, outlasted a full field of 50 senior bowlers to take home his 21st PBA Regional Title and first in four years on Saturday at Bowlero in Glendale, Ariz.

Mohr, who was inducted in the PBA Hall of Fame in 2018, went 7-1 in match play and averaged 213 on the demanding PBA Earl Anthony pattern to come from behind. In the last game of the day, Mohr shot 234 to leapfrog into first place over David Leverage. Mohr earned $2,000 for his first-place finish.

Leverage, from nearby Peoria, Ariz, led the field most of the day but ran into trouble during his last game, which cost him the victory. Right behind Leverage in third place was Steve Smith from San Diego, Calif., who went 5-2-1 in match play.

The PBA50 Glendale Open kicked off the 2021 PBA50 Western Region season with Regional champions and new members. Five Regional champions advanced to match play.

SFT News. Courtesy Of SFT.

Chandler - - - Our event this weekend was at AMF McRay lanes and had a great turnout for a two squad event with 108 entries for the event which is about 54 bowlers per squad. We had 67 qualifying and 41 parlay entries with 29 total cashers, a 1 in 3.7 cash ratio and paid out over $5,100.00 in main and side event prize fund. The players bowled on the very difficult Kegel 40ft Red Square oil pattern. This is Kegel’s version of the original U.S. Open pattern or more commonly known as the PBA Bear oil pattern. It is a very flat oil pattern that leaves practically no room for error and puts precedence on shot making and spare shooting. Since it’s not an extremely long or short oil pattern, many players could play in different areas on the lane.

As always, we would like to welcome our newest members to the SFT AHT family. Welcome Brian Coleman and Tricia Standefer participated in their first ever SFT AHT this Sunday, and we hope to see them all again.  Tricia made a run today in her first event, but more on that below.  We had a few Parlay Power Players this weekend in Xavier Altamirano, Adam Orlopp and Jennifer Peterson who all made the Quarterfinals with just their $25.00 parlay investment.  Adam would go the furthest making it all the way to the Final match with a chance to win $1,000.00!  Congrats to Marcus Boner on winning $260 from Momma’s Mystery Pot with a score of 150.  Your winner of the free plastic ball raffle, with an option to upgrade to any Track high performance for $85.00, was Ted McKay!!!

Since this was a 2 squad event, there was no re-oil for the quarterfinals which would see some really low scores.  There were a couple of bowlers that were able to throw a few big games, but mainly shooting your average would give you a chance to make it to the Semi-final round.  In the A Division, we would have Ben Perry (+120) as your #1 seed taking on Shane Smith (+82).  The B Division would come down to game 3 to see who would make the semi-finals with your #1 seed being Brian Richardson (+27) and he would face off with Adam Orlopp (+26).  The C Division would also be really close as there were 3 bowlers that were all within 3 pins of each other.  The #1 seed would be Tricia Standefer (+41) and she would bowl against Dan Marks (+40).

The C Division semi-final match would go back and forth between Dan and Tricia.  A few open frames by Dan would give Tricia a lead that she wouldn’t give up as she was able to stay clean to win the match, 223 to 183.  The B Division match would be a grind fest as both Brian and Adam would struggle to find a line to the pocket.  Brian would open in the fifth and sixth frames giving Adam the advantage and Adam would fill out the match to win, 217 to 179.  While the other two divisions would see the bowlers struggle, the A Division semi-final would be a high scoring match.  Both Shane and Ben would go back and forth crushing the pocket and it would all come down to the tenth frame.  Shane would finish the match first going nine-spare and a strike to finish at 255.  Ben would need a double and any mark on the fill to win.  Ben would get up and throw his first shot, but it would go high in the pocket leaving the 4-8, which he would chop on the spare attempt, to finish at 232.

Going into the Finals, we would see both Adam and Tricia making their finals debut and looking for their first title.  Tricia has been attending the events for the past couple of months to watch her son William Standefer bowl.  So it was nice to see her decide that she was going to give it a shot to bowl our events and now her she was making the Finals in her first event.  Shane was looking for his 2nd AHT SFT title in the past two months and had been bowling well for most of the day.

The final match would see Shane start off red hot, throwing the first 6 strikes to make up any handicap difference that he was facing.  Adam and Tricia would start off a bit slow, but by the middle of the match they had both got themselves back on track.  Shane would split in the seventh frame and give Adam and Tricia a little bit of hope,  but would then finish out the match with a couple of strikes to finish at 266.  Adam and Tricia would battle each other for 2nd place and the $300.00 difference between 2nd and 3rd.  Going into the tenth Tricia was 5 pins ahead of Adam.  Adam would finish first going 8-spare and nine to finish at 228.  Tricia would get up and go a bit high on her shot leaving the 6-10, which she would spare and then strike on the fill to finish at 234 for 2nd place.  Congrats to Shane Smith for winning his 2nd AHT SFT title and the $1,050.00 first place prize.  Also, congrats to Tricia Standefer on 2nd and Adam Orlopp on 3rd place.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made this event a successful one!  We are going to take next weekend off as our tournament partner, True Amateur Tournament (TAT), is hosting their event in Las Vegas next weekend.  Good luck to those that are heading up to bowl the event!  We hope to see you all in two weeks at Bowlero Via Linda on Saturday, February 13th for our 2 squad event!

FINALS - Shane Smith vs. Adam Orlopp vs. Tricia Standefer.
