Arizona's Chris Weyrauch, Wins TAT Masters - Courtesy Of TAT And Desert Bowler.
Sun City - - - Congratulations again to Chris Weyrauch of Chandler, AZ for winning this past weekend's inaugural TAT Masters at Lakeview Lanes in Sun City, AZ! We had 132 entries for this new event, paying out over $18,600 in cash and prizes!
Chris, representing the Handicap Division, ran the gauntlet through the match play bracket finals in impressive fashion, averaging 232 scratch across 12 games during the finals on the 38-foot custom-built Sport pattern.
In the Grand Final match, Chris came through with a clutch strike on his fill ball in the 10th to shut out Scratch Division winner Matt Jones of Phoenix for the $3,000 first place title. Matt won $1,250 for second place and Perry Platko of Kingman took home $800 for third place.
Although Chris was in the Progressive Pot, he was unable to add to his winnings with additional strikes after his victory, so the balance of the pot will carry over to the TAT Morongo Classic at the end of March. If the winner at Morongo breaks the Progressive Pot, that bowler could take home over $11,000!
This special TAT Masters event, which featured 5 games of qualifying, a 1:5 cut, 3 divisions, and the aforementioned match-play bracket finals, proved to be a hit with the bowlers and is something we plan to bring back every year.
A much more detailed article about this event will appear in February's issue of Desert Bowler Newspaper, so keep a look out for that around the middle of next month.

Sectional Assignments Announced - ASU - GCU Paired In Fort Worth Sectional - Story From Bowl.com.
ARLINGTON, Texas – The nation’s best collegiate bowling programs have their sights set on postseason play now that sectional assignments have been announced for the 2025 Intercollegiate Team Championships.
The sectional assignments were broadcast live on BowlTV on Wednesday night and introduced the 80 women’s programs and 80 men’s teams moving ahead in the 2024-2025 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season with the opportunity to claim the coveted Helmer Cup.
The sectional qualifiers will be held across four locations March 8-9. The locations include Stardust Bowl in Addison, Illinois; Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Michigan; Cityview Lanes in Fort Worth, Texas; and Smyrna Bowling Center in Smyrna, Tennessee.
The top four teams in each division will advance from their sectional and head to South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas for the 2025 ITC from April 16-19.
The regular season concluded over the weekend, and both squads from Mount Mercy finished as the top-ranked teams heading into the sectional qualifiers. For the Mount Mercy women, this marks the third year in a row they’ve ended the regular season atop the rankings in their division.
The Mount Mercy women are looking to make their sixth consecutive appearance at the ITC and will compete at the Addison Sectional as will the men’s team.
Webber International is the defending national champion on the men’s side entering postseason play. The Warriors, who have captured three ITC titles, will be starting their title defense at the Smyrna Sectional.
There will be a new women’s national champion in 2025 as Wichita State opted to compete exclusively in NCAA postseason competition this season.
The final Tier I event of the 2024-2025 regular season took place Feb. 15-16 at the Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis, and the bracket wins in the 56th edition of the tournament went to the Savannah College of Art and Design-Savannah men and the Judson women.
Savannah College of Art and Design-Savannah will be in Smyrna, and Judson will make its way to Addison.
