10 Lopes Earn Post Season Accolades - Courtesy Of GCU.
Phoenix - - -10 members of the Grand Canyon University Bowling team were awarded various postseason accolades following the conclusion of the season, highlighting many of their performances on the lanes as well as in the classroom. All-American honors were voted on by members of the Club Team Bowling Coaches Association.
Lopes' senior Josh Molloy was voted to the West Coast All-Stars team for the first time in his collegiate career. Molloy also earned CTBCA 2nd Team Men's All-American honors, adding to his previous freshman appearance on the 2nd team and sophomore appearance on the 1st team. Nicholas Barrieault, Thomas Ellis, and Anthony Scharton were honored as All-American finalists.
"We play a team sport, but it takes a lot of talented individuals coming together to make us successful," said Lopes' Head Coach Ben Canfield. "It's very cool to see those student athletes honored now, and I hope there's even more to come next season."
The Lopes also had bowlers Alex Hepp, Andrew Merrell, Wesley Cunningham, Juan Canez, Erika Kemp, Nicholas Barrieault, and Kaitlyn Davis earn National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association Collegiate Scholar Athlete awards - thanks to their 3.5+ cumulative grade point averages throughout the season.
"I really admire the diligence of these athletes in the classroom," said Canfield. "This is the most important part of being a student-athlete, more so than what we're doing on the lanes."

TAT Wraps Up Summer Event - Courtesy Of Jamie McWilliams.
Las Vegas, NV. - - - Another great week at the TAT filled with lots of bowling and great people. With 1,000 competitors and $300,000 paid out in cash and checks it was our largest summer event in 23 years of operation.
I want to personally thank everyone that came out to support this event and keep it growing. Its always a exhausting week but its the best because I get to see all my friends in one place!
I already have some big plans for February and hope to see everyone at The Gold Coast February 19th-25th, 2024.
We could not do this event with the support of you and our sponsors. The Roto Grip crew always does an amazing job and handed out 825 Roto Grip High performance balls. They also laid out balls for our Amateur bowlers and gave them tips to succeed on the lanes.
Creating The Difference was their surfacing balls and educating our Amateur bowlers and I heard several success stories this week. Thank you Ron Hickland Jr and Sr!
Coolwick was on hand selling custom TAT jerseys at discounts and handing out TAT Dri fit shirts.
Kegel made a new pattern for me this year and it played great as Amateur bowlers played it in so many different ways it was fun to watch.
I also have to thank my staff who are just amazing people and love to help others. I couldn't do it without you and you make it easy for me!
Stay tuned for some Lanetalk TAT tournaments where you can earn a free entry into the TAT in Las Vegas by bowling in your local center.

JBT News - Courtesy Of JBT - Arizona Invitational At Let It Roll.
Phoenix - - - San Diego invaded Phoenix with championship performances, as Brandon Rother and Jon Abigania each earned $1,000 scholarships as winners of the 27th annual JBT Arizona Conference Invitational, held at Let It Roll.
After five qualifying games, sixteen bowlers in each division advanced to exciting triple-elimination matchplay. Kendall Bollea impressed by leading the stacked scratch division, but struggled in matchplay enroute to a 12th place finish. Rother raced through that opening, getting through six rounds undefeated before Keith Ylvisaker stopped him to stay alive. In round eight, Keith eliminated Josh Molloy, which proved pivotal as Cesar Padilla lasted one round longer, and that combined with the two highest games of the tournament, was enough for Padilla to leap Josh on the season-long points and earn Bowler of the Year honors. In the end, Ylvisaker tenaciously hung on to the final two, but beating Rother twice was too much for anyone on this day, as the Californian won the first game to earn his 7th career title and the $1,000 top prize.
With sister Katelyn off at Team USA events, and brother Josh having an unusually quiet day, littlest brother Jon was left to carry the Abigania family honor, and boy did he, earning the top handicap seed and burning through five rounds undefeated before JT Verde stopped his run. They would meet again often as the other two-loss bowlers knocked each other out, with RJ Pointon in fifth (plenty to earn Bowler of the Year honors), Gage Baker in fourth, and finally, JT in third as Jon finally eliminated him in round ten. That left 8 seed Christian Ortega sneaking through with two losses to try and beat Jon twice. Abigania started the last game strong and when Christian couldn't catch up, Jon claimed the fifth title of his young JBT career and the $1,000 windfall.
Since Kendall was the top seed in scratch, she also earned the top spot in Girls Scratch and U17, but her opponents there were up to challenge, as Daryus Alo claimed the U17 win, and Jadeyn Mabry won her first in Girls Scratch. Huge thanks as always to Let It Roll for the top-notch hosting job, all of our sponsors for making the Tour as we know it possible, and everyone for making the season exciting from first shot to last. This is the fifth and final Invitational tour-wide, so the field is now set for the Touring Players Championship, with over $20,000 in scholarships and our all-conference awards up for grabs!
Two bowlers added to their title collections, while two tasted victory for the first time, at the JBT's annual Tournament of Champs and Future Champs, hosted by Phoenix's beautifully remodeled Let It Roll.
In the all-time champs event, the current JBT bowlers shut the adults out of the finals for the first time in a while, and the resulting stepladder began with Keith Ylvisaker squeaking by all-conference points leader Andrew Guba in round one. Josh Molloy then got past Ylvisaker to reach the title match... where he ran into an absolute runaway freight train in top seed Brandon Rother. Rother won the AZ Invitational the day before, and kept destroying racks here today, starting with the front six to put Molloy away early and earn the 8th title of his JBT career. Rother earned a total of $1,515 on the lucrative weekend, but Josh beat that with a whopping $1,600- $1,000 of that coming from breaking the long PowerBowl drought with a jackpot winning 5-count!
Handicap champs began their stepladder with Terell Coates squeaking by Austin Nash by three pins. Isaac John then beat Coates to setup an all-New Mexico title game between him and top seed Aiden Ruiz Jimenez. A 10-pin in the ninth frame stopped a comeback attempt by Aiden, and John claimed his second career title with the TOC victory.
Both non-champs finals featured commanding ladder-climbs, as Devin Fincham rolled past Nathan Bravo, Zackary Evans, and top seed Sterling Smith, to finally earn his first career JBT title. Dylan Donahue didn't look anything like a non-champ in the scratch division, as he blasted 712 in a three-game romp over Ryan Zent, Jason Gootzeit, and top seed Nathan Harnit (who was trying out scratch for the first time!), to erase 'non-champ' from his resume.
Gootzeit emerged with the day's U17 win, while Peyton Lee beat Kendall Bollea to take the girls scratch subdivision. Giant thanks to Let It Roll for their usual hospitality, and especially all the JBT alumni coming back to bowl with today's JBT stars and stars in the making. An enormous $11,210 was awarded over the weekend to wrap up an incredible regular season, with roughly double that up for grabs at the TPC in July!
