Ron McDonald wins title #2 at Glenfair Lanes! SFT News Courtesy Of SFT.

Glendale - - -Our event this weekend was at Glenfair lanes and we had nice little turnout with all the other events going on in the Valley.  We had 68 total entries (44 qualifying and 24 economy parlay), 26 total cashers, a 1 in 3.1 cash ratio and paid out over $3,250.00 in main and side event prize funds.  Players bowled on the PBA 47ft Scorpion pattern. Most of the players played in the middle of the lane or around the 2nd arrow at the furthest right. It took a couple of squads for the pattern to finally break down and forced players further left, but once it finally broke down the scores increased significantly.

As always, we want to welcome our first-time bowlers to the SFT AHT family!  Welcome Erica Bierly, Chris Cahn, Jeff Miller, Brenda Burk and Rene Villa to our little bowling family! We hope you all had a good time at your first event, and we look forward to seeing you at the next one! Also, congrats to Charlie Light on being this weekend's only Parlay Power Player.  Charlie was able to make the quarterfinals off his initial $25 investment.  Congrats to Xavier Altamirano and Sheila Reddic on advancing to the quarterfinals in their first ever event or their first quarterfinals appearance in quite a while! Also, congrats to Jonah Tafoya for winning Momma's Mystery Score, with a 167, for $190.00! Your raffle winner of the free plastic ball with an option to upgrade to any Track High-Performance bowling ball for $85.00 was Dan Lanious!

The quarterfinals, like the rest of the event, was medium to high scoring with the standings being very tight and being determined by the final game of the quarterfinals. In the A & C Division, with only 5 players in each Division, we would see the Division winners advance straight into the Final match.  The winner of the A Division would be Ron McDonald (+85) and the C Division leader would be Dan Lanious (+49).  In the B Division, we would have a semi-final match as we cut down to the top 2 bowlers which would be Josh Black (+107) and he would have to face off against Richard Wallace (+96).  The semi-final would see Richard start off the match with a good lead, but a split in the seventh frame would event things up.  Josh was able to get lined up and it would all come down to the tenth frame.  Richard was on a double and would need to keep striking to put some pressure on Josh to do the same.  Unfortunately, Richard couldn't carry the pocket and would fill out his tenth with nine-spare and nine on his fill ball.  Josh was able to strike out in the tenth frame to punch his ticket to the Finals, 241 to 209.

Going into the Final match we would see Ron McDonald looking for his 2nd SFT AHT title.  Josh Black, our reigning SFT Player of the Year, receives 20 exemptions for the year which places him directly into the quarterfinals without having to qualify.  This would be his first chance to get his first title of the 2019 season and 2nd SFT AHT title overall.  Dan Lanious was making his 5th appearance in the Finals and trying to get over the hurdle to claim his first SFT AHT title.

The Final match would see everyone fire right out the gate with all three bowlers getting strikes on their first ball.  It looked like it was going to be a higher scoring Final match.  Dan would leave a 1-3-6 but was able to pick it up in the second frame.  Ron would strike in the 2nd frame and ten pin in the third frame.  Josh would split in the second frame leaving an ugly 4-6-10 and split again in the third this time leaving the Big Four (4-6-7-10).  This would put him a bit of a hole as Ron and Dan would keep striking.  Dan would throw four Brooklyn strikes in a row to build up a good lead.  He would see his string of strikes end in the seventh frame as he was able to pick up the 1-3 but a missed ten-pin in the eighth would give Ron a chance to catch back up.  Ron would throw a four bagger in the fourth through seventh frames to stay on Dan's heels.  Dan would try to put some pressure on Ron by picking up his eight-spare in the ninth but would miss the 6-10 spare in the tenth to finish at 237.  Ron would spare a three pin in the eighth and then strike out for the rest of the match to finish at 258 scratch, 278 with handicap.  This would give Ron his 2nd SFT AHT title and $625.00!!!  Congrats to Dan Lanious on 2nd place and Josh Black on 3rd place.

Thank you to everyone who came out this weekend to support our event.  We look forward to seeing you all in two weeks at AMF McRay on July 14th.  Good luck to everyone that's heading to Las Vegas for the TAT!!!
