Shannon O' Keefe, Wins Her 10th Title At The PWBA Tucson Open At Golden Pin Lanes

Tucson - - - With Golden Pin Lanes in Tucson scheduled to close at the end of June. The PWBA made its first and only tour stop at the 59 year old bowling center from June 6-8. The tournament had a good draw as 74 bowlers began the two day process of cutting the field to 32, after 16 games of qualifying on Friday. Then on Saturday, the field was cut to the top 16, then to the top 12, and finally to the top four for the stepladder finals.

Arizona was well represented in the tournament (see the Arizona field in the photo). Shannon Pluhowsky, formerly of Phoenix (now Dayton, OH), finished in seventh place. And local favorite. Bryanna Cote, of Red Rock, finished in 11th place.

There were three 300 games rolled in the tournament by: Valerie Bercier, Sydney Brummett, and HOF Kelly Kulick. But, it was Kulick who would eventually, and quite possibly roll the last perfect game in Golden Pin Lanes' history. Kulick's perfect game came in the first game of the Round of 12, on Saturday afternoon, on lanes 25 and 26.

In the stepladder finals: Liz Kuhlkin defeated Danielle McEwan, 299-226. Maria Jose Rodriquez defeated Kuhlkin in the semi-final match, 247-216. And Shannon O' Keefe, defeated Rodriquez in the championship match, 259-196.

First Annual CBE Phoenix Women's Open A Success. Courtesy Of CBE.

Phoenix - - -First off, thank you to the ladies that came out to RH Johnson Lanes today to compete in the Inaugural CBE Women’s Phoenix Open. Especially after a long two days bowling the PWBA tour stop in Tucson.

Our entry count wasn’t the greatest, but I had nothing but positive feedback from the ladies that showed up to bowl and they’re looking forward to next year and spreading the word to others! Again, thank you!

Congrats to Sydney Brummett on taking home the title of the first CBE Phoenix Women’s Open champion!

Sydney bowled solid all day and qualified for the bracket as the #3 seed.

Sydney’s first match saw her need a double in the 10th of game 2 to move on and she stepped up and threw 3 great shots to take down Tannya Roumimper 427-424

In her next match she was able to defeat Jennifer Dovers 395-336.

In the round of 3, Sydney started off slow with a 145, but was able to put together another solid game along with another big 10th frame to stay alive in the 3-way match which eliminated her roommate, Bryanna Caldwell Coté.

In the title match Sydney started with a clean 213 game and was 36 pins down to Danielle McEwan’s 246. Sydney once again stepped it up in game 2 and put together another clutch game 2 and tenth frame defeating Danielle 449-445.

1. Sydney Brummett $2,000
2. Danielle McEwan $1,000
3. Bryanna Coté $600

With only 24 entries this year, the ladies agreed to adjust the prize fund to $2,000 first place and beef up the other payout spots.

Of the 24 entries, we paid out the top 10!!!

Ladies that weren’t there this year....why???!!!

Put it on your calendar for next year. We will once again host this event the day after the PWBA Tour is in Tucson. So plan for it!!

Again, thank you to the locals that came out and big thanks to the National Tour ladies that made the side trip.

Bob Gazis wins 1st title at AMF McRay! SFT News Courtesy Of SFT.

Chandler - - -The event today was at AMF McRay, we had 71 total entries with 41 qualifying and 30 economy parlay entries. The players bowled on the 38ft Winding Road oil pattern that yielded medium to higher scores. The cut scores varied but averaged around +50 for the event, which meant it took bowlers bowling 10 pins over their average a game to make the cut.

We want to welcome Harold Smith and Geoff Garrow to the SFT AHT family! Thanks to you guys for coming out and trying out the event, we hope you had a good time in your first event!

The quarter finals were very low scoring, with one of the divisions taking minus to be the division champion! We had Bob Gazis coming out of the A division with +33, Kevin Dollar -3 in the C division and Dan Marks at +14. Which means the average leader actually bowled under their average to win their division.

The final match showed the difference in experience between the players with Dan and Kevin not getting off to the best start and being the only players that had never bowled in a final match before. Maybe it was due to nerves, but no one knows. Bob was able to stay clean and throw a few strikes to get in the lead and was able to maintain the lead the entire match to take home the title.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the event this weekend and we look forwad to seeing you at the next one at Brunswick Desert Sky, next Saturday!
