Our 5th in the cactus state. We feel there are still a lot of great stories in bowling in Arizona that still need to be told, and we want to be the one to tell them. We can not begin to thank all of you for the support we have gotten over the last five years. It means a lot to us to be appreciated by the Arizona bowling community. Dishawn Byrd wins $1,000 at Bowlero Kyrene!. SFT News Courtesy Of SFT.
Chandler- - - Our event this weekend was at Bowlero Kyrene and we had a great turnout! We had 111 total entries (71 qualifying & 40 economy parlay), with 31 cashers, a 1 in 3.58 cash ratio and a payout of over $5,500.00 in main and side event prize funds. The players bowled on a very difficult 40ft PBA Bear oil pattern that had some of the lowest scores of the season. The pattern allowed players to play from any angle, but the key was trying to make high quality shots and then pick your spares. There were quite a few people who thought that the scores would go up for the last squad as the lanes would have some more play on them by then. However, this didn't happen at all, as the cut score stayed pretty much the same in all three divisions from squad 1 to squad 3.
We want to quickly welcome our new bowlers that joined us for this event! Mike Chew, Kelly Davis, Jason Bach, Larry Schwarberg, Vasily Zinchenko and Valentin Wilcox all bowled in their first SFT AHT event this weekend! It's awesome to still see new faces each week! We hope all of you had a great time, and we look forward to seeing you next time! We had one parlay power player in Kevin Kilday who turned his $25 entry fee into a spot in the quarterfinal round! We had several players making their first ever SFT AHT quarterfinals! Congrats to Larry Schwarberg and Valentin Wilcox who made both made their first ever quarterfinals today. Your winner of the free plastic ball drawing, with an option to upgrade to any Track high-performance bowling ball for $85.00, was Ron Gonzales.
The quarterfinals were held on a fresh pattern and the quarterfinal scores low, as they had been all day. Eric Flick would lead the A Division and earn the #1 seed at +87. He would have to face off against #2 seed Chris Tucker (+50). In the B division, your #1 seed would be Dishawn Byrd (+63) and he would have to battle AHT SFT veteran Bryton Bobbitt (+54). In the C Division, your leader was Kevin Dollar (+56) and he would be taking on Ken W. Davis (+44).
The A Division semi-final match would see Eric Flick throw enough strikes to defeat Chris Tucker, who struggled to find a line to the pocket, 215 to 185. The B Division semi-final would find Bryton Bobbitt unable to find the pocket and would lose the match to Dishawn Byrd, 189 to 169. Meanwhile, the C Division semi-final would be highly contested with #1 seed Kevin Dollar trying to hold off Ken W. Davis. It would all come down to the final frame as Kevin would finish the match first. Kevin would get an eight count on his first ball and was able to pick up the spare. On Kevin's fill ball, his ball went a little long leaving a washout to finish at 191. Ken would get up and get a nine count on his first ball leaving only the seven pin. He would need to pick up his spare, then get at least seven on his spare to tie and eight to win. Ken would go on to pick up the spare and get nine on his fill ball to win his match, 193 to 191.
Going into the Final match, Eric Flick would be looking to get his fourth overall AHT SFT title. He had already taken 2nd place at the previous tournament held at Kyrene and was looking at another chance to get his first win of the 2019 season. Both Dishawn Byrd and Ken W. Davis were making their 1st appearance in the Finals and both would be looking for their first titles as well.
The Final match would start off all three bowlers trying to line up and get their ball to hit the pocket correctly. Eric would stay clean until midway through the match when he would open in the fourth and fifth frames. After a bit of nerves, Ken would string together a couple of strikes to get himself back into the match. Dishawn would take advantage by doubling in the fifth and sixth frames to take the lead. Over halfway through the match Eric would open in the seventh and eighth frames to put himself in a hole. Eric would try to comeback but would fall short finishing the match at 167. Ken would also open in the seventh, eighth and ninth to surrender the lead to Dishawn. Ken would go on and finish the match at 184. Dishawn would stay clean the rest of the game to win the match with a score of 215, giving himself his first AHT SFT title and $1,000.00!!! Congrats to Ken W. Davis for 2nd place and Eric Flick for 3rd place.
Thank you to everyone who came out this weekend to support the event. We look forward to seeing you all next Sunday at Glenfair Lanes for our final tournament of the 2019 Spring Circuit!
