SFT News - Courtesy Of SFT.

Chandler - - - Our event this weekend (June 6), was at Bowlero Kyrene which always has a great turn out! We would see 133 total entries this weekend (89 qualifying and 44 economy parlays) with 37 cashers, a 1 in 3.6 cash ratio and a payout of over $7,100.00 in main and side event prize funds. The players bowled on a 39ft PBA Chameleon oil pattern that played softer in this center compared to the last tournament that used this pattern at Mesa East Bowl.  The pattern started off playable and opened up more and more as the day went on. Bowlers could play from a variety of angles, but had to get the ball to enter the pocket the right way or they would leave a split or single pin spare.  The cut scores for the event were all in the +60 to +70 range for all three divisions which meant that bowlers had to bowl above their average to advance.  The players all played around 12-14 at the break point, with some being further left at the arrows and others closer to the gutter and pointing it at the head pin depending on their playing style.

We had some new bowlers join us for their first event and we want to welcome Brandon Fauble, Audie Atkins, Marcus Haley and Trey Martin who all bowled in their first event this weekend.  We hope you all had a good time and look forward to seeing you at our next event.  Congrats to few players that were our Parlay Power Players this weekend.  Reggie Elliott, Garret Strehl, Jaylynn Peterson, Mark Jatcko and Nathan Hollingsworth all were able to qualify for the quarterfinals off of their $25 parlay investment.  Congrats to Ken Nelson for winning Momma’s Mystery Pot, with a score of 175, for $280.00!!  Your winner of the free plastic ball raffle, with an option to upgrade to any Track high-performance ball for $85.00, was Josh Williams.

The quarterfinals were bowled on the fresh oil pattern.  We had 28 quarterfinalists, with the A Division having 8 bowlers and the B & C Divisions having 9 bowlers.  The cut ratio from the quarterfinals to the semi-finals is 1 in 3, so that meant we would cut to the Top 2 bowlers in the A Division, while we would cut to the Top 3 bowlers in the B & C Divisions.  With the re-oil the pattern played truer and you could tell in the quarterfinal scores as scores would be some of the lowest on the day.  It looked like it would come down to the final game in each division to see who would advance to the semi-final round.

In the A Division, your #1 seed would be Correen Acuff (+116) and she would take on James Roethle (+75).  The B Division #1 seed was Parlay Power Player Garret Strehl (+64) and he would face off with #2 Brandon JohnsonKroman (+43) and #3 William Standefer (+18).  The C Division was led by up-and-coming youth bowler Ryan Doyle (+102) and he would meet #2 seed and Parlay Power Player Nathan Hollingsworth (+87) and #3 seed Danielle Whitlock (+30).

The C Division semi-final match would see Ryan Doyle jump out to a quick lead with a string of strikes to win the match with an impressive 255 game with handicap. Danielle would come in second at 210 and Nathan would finish up at 201.  The B Division also went the same way with Garret Strehl striking in four of his first five frames to take command of the match early.  Brandon would miss a few single pin spares to dig himself into a hole and would finish out the match at 181.  William started off slowly but tried to get himself back into the match late with some timely strikes, but it was too little too late as he would finish at 226.  Garret would continue to string strikes through the second half of the match and finish at 255 to win the match.

The A Division would be a real nail biter with Correen and James going back and forth through out the match.  It would all come down to the ninth and tenth frames.  James would start off the ninth frame needing to get some good count in the ninth and tenth to put pressure on Correen.  James’ firsts shot in the ninth would hit high in the pocket leaving the 2-4-10 split.  James would then calmly get up and pick up the spare attempt.  James would go on to strike in the tenth and need to double to force Correen to strike in the tenth.  James’ 2nd shot in the tenth would take off leaving the 3-6-10 and he would spare to fill out the frame to finish at 224.  Going into the tenth Correen would need any mark to win or a nine count would tie the match.  Correen’s first shot in the tenth looked a bit soft off her hand and would go through the nose leaving the 3-4-7 split, which she would need to convert to win the match or get two to tie the match and send it into a roll-off.  Correen’s spare attempt would miss a bit left missing the 4-pin and chopping off the 7-pin to finish the match at 223.

Going into the Finals we would see both Ryan Doyle and Garret Strehl making their first Finals and both would be looking for their first title and $1,300 first place prize.  James had been the Finals before and was looking for his third AHT SFT title.  All three bowlers had been bowling well all day and it looked like it would come down to who could get lined up quickly in the final match.

Finals would start off with all three bowlers getting lined up quickly.  Ryan and James would struggle a bit with some transition while Garret would completely catch fire starting off with a nine-spare and then striking in the next eight frames to put away the match.  Ryan and James would go back and forth for 2nd place with James trying to make up the 36-pin handicap difference with Ryan.  It would come down to the tenth to see who would come in second with Ryan finishing up the match with a 232.  James would need to double in the tenth to have a chance at passing Ryan.  James would strike in the tenth and then leave the big four (4-6-7-10) which he was unable to convert to finish in third at 220.  Garret would cruise to the finish line throwing an impressive 256 scratch game to win his first AHT SFT title and $1,300.00 first place prize.  What’s pretty impressive is that Garret did this all from his $25.00 economy parlay entry.  So, congrats to Ryan Doyle on 2nd place and $675.00 and also to James Roethle on third place and $400.00!

Thank you to everyone that came out and made this event such a great success!  We are going to be off next weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Saturday, June 19th at AMF Peoria for our 2-squad event.  Have a good week!
