TUCSON METRO USBC UPDATE
By Mark Kerr, President
Tucson - - - CITY AND WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT UPDATE: Bowlers from Tucson, Pima County, Southern Arizona and across the state took part in the 81st Annual Tucson Metro USBC City Championships and the 75th Annual Women’s Championships, at Lucky Strike Bowl in Tucson, with more than 500 total bowlers (112 teams for the City Championships and 25 teams for the Women’s Championships.)
Bowling took place over five weekends for the tournaments which were conducted concurrently. This approach Tucson Metro USBC took gave bowlers more opportunities and dates to bowl in these tournaments and Tucson Metro USBC to conduct them. This idea was devised by Association Manager Steve Harris. The concurrent tournaments were also used for the Senior Open and Senior Women’s Championships, that took place at Cactus Bowl, increasing the number of participants for both events. The concurrent events is the model Tucson Metro USBC will be using for the foreseeable future.
Two 300 games were bowled in the tournaments, by Paul Holbrook of Flagstaff and Ken Thurman of Sierra Vista. Shawna Strause, Steve Dekker and Ryan Plasterer bowled 299 games during competition.

JBT News - Courtesy Of JBT. Event Held At Bowlero Christown On March 15-16.
Phoenix - - - Caden Meliska and Andrew Lynnes picked up JBT titles in exciting JBT Arizona Conference action at Bowlero Christown in Phoenix.
Brendan Bobersky began the scratch division stepladder finals with a win over California's Brent Purugganan. He then got past Aliyas Sargento to advance to the title match. Top seed Caden Meliska was struggling as badly as the rest of the field on the day's very challenging pattern, until a huge 269 vaulted him to the lead, and he never bowled under 200 the rest of the event, including a blistering 245 to stop the hard charging Bobersky and pick up the second title, and first scratch, of his JBT career.
Paityn Gaines and Oregon visitor had a topsy turvy match to open the handicap stepladder finals, appropriately ending in a 205 tie. Even the tiebreak had time to change leads, with Caldera finally escaping 35-34. Johnny got some momentum and then beat consistent Jeff Crowley in the semifinal match to advance against top seed Andrew Lynnes. Lynnes has been having a fantastic season en route to the all-conference points lead, and had no problem with the day's difficult lane pattern. He maintained the solid bowling in the finales, stopping Johnny for the second title of his JBT career.
Gaines was consoled with a win over Colorado's Naomi Kannady for the day's girls scratch title, while Jacob Vasquez beat Jason Gootzeit for the U17 win.

Phoenix - - - The 'any age' part of the JBT slogan proved as true as always, with 7 year-old Harvey Howe and Brendan Bobersky each picking up their second career JBT titles in exciting Arizona Conference action at Phoenix's Bowlero Christown.
Rising star Gage Baker and Bobersky earned the top two seeds for the scratch division matchplay bracket, and chalk held this time, as Gage beat JR Barczysyzn and Gavin Fernandez to get the final, while Brendan stopped Nicholas Harnit and Dylan Donahue to arrive at the final. Baker had the chance to shut out in the tenth but a brutal solid-7 denied that. Given the second chance, the veteran Bobersky threw a beautiful double to win the match and claim JBT title #2.
Twenty bowlers advanced to the handicap bracket, and #20 Shaiden Raymond made the most of squeezing in, getting to the semifinal before being stopped by Garrett Huizar. In the bottom half of the bracket, #10 Rylie Dalberti had an outstanding rookie performance, but the 'veteran' Howe stopped him to set up the final. Huizar struggled a bit in the last game, and Harvey took full advantage, with a comfortable win over Garrett for the second title of his JBT career, one of the youngest to achieve that incredible mark!
Baker was consoled with a win over Nathan Harnit to earn the day's U17 win, while Kendall Bollea claimed her tenth girls scratch win of the season with a win over Colorado visitor Naomi Kannady.
Huge thanks to the Christown team for a tremendous job hosting our Tour for the first time in eight years! Want in on all this fun for all ages and skill levels? Just check out our schedule, email us to reserve a spot, and come on down!
