Tucson Metro USBC wants to thank those who serve this nation in the armed services, as well as those who served this nation, for their service and their families, for their support.
In conjunction with Veterans’ Day, Tucson Metro USBC is holding the fourth annual BVL (Bowlers for Veterans Link, also known as Brightening Veterans Lives), In House League Tournament, running from November 8-22.
During that time, those bowling in sanctioned leagues have the opportunity to take part. Entry fee is only $5 each time you bowl in your league, and is based on your league scores that night, plus handicap. $3 from each entry goes into the prize fund, and $2 will go to BVL. Tucson Metro USBC is guaranteeing $200 for the first-place winner. In addition, Tucson Metro USBC is giving away a bowling ball, donated by Shawna Strause, for this year’s tournament. It will be based on bowlers' entries; the more times bowlers enter, the more chances they will have to win the ball. Bowlers can bowl more than once and in different leagues if they are bowling in them as well. Entry forms are at the front desk of each bowling center, and we want to thank the five centers in Tucson for their support of this tournament. Final results will be in the next edition as well as online at tucsonmetrousbc.com.
On Saturday, November 8, Tucson Metro USBC held its first Junior Adult Tournament and Bumper Bowling Tournament at Cactus Bowl. Board Members Gloria Harris and Ken Lewis Sr., helped coordinate the event. The Junior Adult Tournament had a full 32 teams bowling in the Junior Adult and eight bantam bowlers taking part in the Bumper Bowling. Thanks to the Cactus Junior Program and the other junior bowling programs for their work on this, as well as the staff of Cactus Bowl for hosting.

JBT News - Courtesy Of JBT. November 1 and 2 Results.
Riverside,Ca.- - - Do Hoon Kwon and Lance De Guzman picked up JBT titles in day one action at the annual Jim Kent Classic at Riverside Lanes.
Vance Youngren opened up the scratch division stepladder finals with the high game of the tournament, blasting a 267 to beat Renz-Philip De Guzman’s 190. Vance then got past Jake Sale in a close 220-208 match to advance to the final. Top seed Kwon had taken the lead from De Guzman in the last game of round two, but was in a battle against Youngren, who looked poised to take his first title. However, a good ball change on the right lane proved pivotal for Do Hoon, striking out from the eight for a 234-207 win, and the 8th title of his JBT career.
Round one in the handicap finals was as close as you could get, with Eleanor Reed escaping from Ellie Lennox 226-225. Round two was almost as close, with Reed again squeezing out the win, this time 172-169 over Samantha Stevens. Top seed De Guzman, like his big brother, had a great rookie debut, staying clear of the field most of the day. He kept it going in the final, beating a tiring Reed 227-178 for the title, the first of his JBT career.
Renz-Philip got some revenge in the U17 title match, defeating Kwon 209-208 for that subdivision title, while Candace Van Tine earned her first Girls Scratch win of the season 204-177 over Kai Ostrum.
Big thanks as always to Chris and the whole team at Riverside for their usual great hosting job. Want in on all the fin for all ages and skill levels? Just check out our schedule and email your reservations today!

Riverside,Ca.- - -Danny Chalmers and Ellie Lennox came up with big wins to wrap up a challenging but wonderful weekend of action at the Jim Kent Classic, hosted by Riverside Lanes in Mount Vernon.
After five qualifying games, survivors moved on to ‘pick your poison’ matchplay, where higher seeded players choose their own opponents. In the scratch division semifinals, Sam Strange chose Renz-Philip De Guzman, and it was just barely a good choice, as he escaped 200-197, while Renz finished in fourth for the second straight day. That left Danny Chalmers to play another Hawaiian (a whole bunch got out of the sun and into the Washington November weather to join us this week), Kaz Yamada. In that match Danny won 237-197 to advance to the final. The two friends rolled a high quality match on a challenging pattern, and after a tenth frame spare from Strange, Chalmers needed a strike to win. Danny showed why he’s two-time defending Bowler of the Year, flushing the hit to earn the title, the 12th of his JBT career.
In the handicap division, Lennox made her second consecutive top four appearance a success with a 251-175 win over newcomer Brooke Nichols, while Lance De Guzman reached the title match for the second consecutive day, dodging past Canadian Liam Mac Donald 223-202 to try and go back to back. After a stellar debut weekend, Lance finally slowed down a bit in the final, and Ellie ended her long search for a title with a solid 224-188 win over De Guzman, good for JBT win #1!
Candace Van Tine swept the weekend’s Girls Scratch events, this tie getting by MacKenzi Clark 197-191, while Sam’s brother Eddie Strange led qualifying and then won U17 with a 193-179 win over Ewan Oester. The Mullen family took home a ball of their choice from the Brands of Brunswick, our co-title sponsor along with IAM Bowling.
It's a privilege to honor Jim each year, and bonuses were awarded in his name to the top overall combined finishers on the weekend. Van Tine of course won Girls, Lance's 1st-2nd performance won handicap, Eddie claimed U17, and Renz-Philip and Yamada tied for the scratch spot, splitting the $100 scholarship bonus.
Big thanks as always to Chris and the team at Riverside for another flawless hosting job. Want in on all this fun for all ages and skill levels? Just check out our schedule and email us your reservations today!
