Joe Huber wins his 1st title at AMF McRay!!! SFT News Courtesy Of The SFT.

Chandler - - - Our event this weekend was at AMF McRay and we had a huge turnout with 120 entries (73 qualifying and 47 economy parlays).  We had 31 cashers, a 1 in 3.87 cash ratio and paid out over $5,300.00 in main and side event prize funds.  The players bowled on the 42ft PBA Scorpion oil pattern that played pretty tough for most of the day.  There were some higher scores but bowlers were able to play a variety of angles on the pattern.  The cut scores stayed around +60 for most of the day, which meant that you had to bowl about 10 pins over your average per game to qualify.

We had some new bowlers join us for their first event and we want to welcome John Damazio, Kaylee Am Khong, Tracie Ball, Earle Leach, Rosine Marschke, Angelica Schweickert, Josh Umstead, Phillip Stancato and David Carrington who all bowled in their first event this weekend.  We hope you all had a good time and look forward to seeing you at our next event.  Congrats to Kaylee, Rosine and Earle who all made it to the quarterfinals in their very first event!  Also, congrats to Eric Flick, Carlos Vejar and Patrick Fontierro for being this weekend's Parlay Power Players.  They all made the quarterfinals off their $25 economy parlay investment.  Congrats to Carlos Vejar and Kevin Convirs who both won Momma's Mystery Pot with a score of 184 for $270.00!!  There was another bowler that also bowled a 184 game, but was not present when the Momma's Mystery Score was announced.  Your winner of the free plastic ball raffle, with an option to upgrade to any Track high-performance ball for $85.00, was Ron McDonald.

The quarterfinals would be bowled on the fresh oil pattern and scores showed with those that could throw the ball straighter on the fresh were able to take advantage.  Your A Division leader would be Grand Canyon bowler Kyle Gilbert (+85) and he would face off with Kevin Convirs.  In the B Division your overall #1 seed would be Kaylee Am Khong (+123) and would take on Joe Huber (+64).  The C Division would see #1 seed Robert Behrendt (+84) versus Robert Smith Jr (+35).  The A Division semi-final match would go back and forth with each bowler grinding out the match.  It would come down to the final frame as Kyle was able to stay clean and defeat Kevin, 179 to 165.  The B Division would see Joe Huber throw some well-timed strikes while Kaylee would struggle to get lined up and winning the match, 227 to 191.  In the C Division semi-final would see Robert Smith Jr stay clean enough to get by Robert Behrendt, 212 to 178.

The Final match would feature two bowlers (Kyle and Joe) that were not in the progressive pot.  The way that the progressive pot works is that the money that the bowler wins that is not in the progressive pot is redistributed to all the bowlers that are in the progressive pot depending on where they placed.  Both Kyle and Joe were making their debuts in the Finals and both were looking to capture their first SFT AHT title.  Robert Smith Jr was looking at taking home his 2nd title and the first-place prize projected at $1,100!!

The Final match would start off with Joe Huber taking an early lead by striking in his first two frames.  Robert would try to keep pace with Joe by picking up his spares.  Kyle would struggle with carry and would fall behind Joe and Robert.  Halfway through the match and it looked like Joe Huber would runaway with the game, but Robert was able stay in the game by picking up his spares.  Kyle would try to get himself back in the game by making a ball change in the fifth frame, but it would be too little too late and he would finish the match at 167.  Robert had a chance to get by Joe, but a couple of opens in eighth and tenth frames would be too much to overcome and he would finish at 191.  Joe would continue to put together some well timed strikes to finish at 245 and win his first SFT AHT title and $550.00!!!  Congrats to Robert Smith Jr for 2nd and Kyle Gilbert for 3rd place.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the event this weekend and we hope to see you all next Sunday at AMF Tempe Village.  Good luck to those bowlers that are heading out to Morongo for the TAT tournament!  Have a great week everyone!!!
