Tucson Metro USBC Update

By Mark Kerr, President

Tucson - - -TOURNAMENT UPDATE: Bowlers from Tucson and across the state have taken to the lanes for the 62nd Annual Tucson Metro USBC Senior Open Championships and the 45th Annual Tucson Metro USBC Senior Women’s Championships at Cactus Bowl. Bowling began on the weekend of November 9-10 and will run through November 23-24.

Tucson Metro USBC is running the two tournaments concurrently, with separate prize funds and awards, so that bowlers have more options on dates to take part in the tournaments and helps Tucson Metro USBC oversee the events.

A total of 48 teams have entered the Senior Open Championships, an increase of 20%, and 19 teams have entered the Senior Women’s Championships, an amazing increase of 58% over last year’s event. Tucson Metro USBC thanks all the bowlers taking part to make this idea and approach a success!

During the first weekend of the Senior Women’s Championships, Bunnie Colwell bowled a 300 game during the Team Competition. This was Bunnie’s fourth sanctioned 300 and also, the first 300 bowled in the history of the Senior Women’s Championships.

Current standings are posted on our website, tucsonmetrousbc.com and our Facebook page and social media.

GETTING SANCTIONED: With the situation with Fiesta Lanes, Tucson Metro USBC can help bowlers who have not sanctioned for the 24-25 season get sanctioned.

Bowlers that bowl at Fiesta Lanes, who aren't able to sanction currently for this season, can receive assistance from Tucson Metro USBC to become sanctioned, most cases $29 for the standard membership or the other amounts for Life Memberships and other membership categories. For more information email am@tucsonmetrousbc.com on how to get sanctioned.

BVL IN HOUSE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT UPDATE: With the current, ongoing situation at Fiesta Lanes, the BVL in house tournament, January 12-25, 2025, is being rescheduled to a later date to be determined. Tucson Metro USBC will hold the BVL In House League Tournament. Updates in future articles, online and on social media.

Chandler - - - We were at AMF Chandler today, November 17, for a 3-squad tournament. We would see 93 total entries (69 qualifying and 24 parlays) paying out over $5,000 in main and side event prizefunds. The bowlers played on the 34ft PBA Wolf oil pattern. This house is a high friction house and we would see some higher scores throughout the day.

The Finals would see Bryton Bobbitt continue to put up higher scores as he would shoot 251 to take home his 2nd AHT SFT title and the $950.00 first place prize. Congrats to Payton Steele on second place for $500.00. Also, congrats to Allan Kudlock on third place for $350.00!

Thanks to everyone that came out today. Also, thanks to Shannon Fletcher and the staff at AMF Chandler for hosting us and providing great customer service. Thanks to Joshua Molloy and Michael Dragon for helping out today.

Tournament event summary and results will be online on our website soon. We’ll be back for our final tournament of the 2024 season at Bowlero Gilbert on December 1st.
