Tucson - - - Rematches in the title match resulted in exciting wins in jam-packed JBT Arizona Conference action at Bowlero Tucson.

Jason Gootzeit bowled very well to make his first career scratch division stepladder finals, but fell to all-conference points leader Josh Molloy in round one 207-184.  The all-conference points leader for the last three years, Hunter Mayes, then stopped Molloy to advance to the title match.  Top seed Cesar Padilla claims he isn't good on short patterns like today's, but he fired 299 in qualifying for the high game of the event, eventually leading by over 100 pins.  However, the title match lead was Mayes' with three frames ago before back to back opens and a fantastic closing five-bagger from Padilla forced Hunter to double for the title.  Mayes got the first hit, but a brutal solid-7 stood on the second shot, giving Cesar the comeback win and 6th career JBT title.

Miguel Espinoza made a great run up the handicap stepladder finals, starting with a win over Hannah Hughes 245-219.  Espinoza  then got past Abigail London 235-186 to reach the title match.  He probably wasn't thrilled to see Conner Pendergrass, who beat him for the title in Kingman, and completely dominated this event right from the start.  Unfortunately for Espinoza it was more of the same as he slowed down his pace, and Pendergrass bowled another excellent game for the win and second career JBT title.

Familiar faces won the day's subdivision events, as Katelyn Abigania beat Jadeyn Mabry for Girls Scratch, and Harper Schmidt stopped Gootzeit for U17.  Braxton Sexton nailed the '27' jackpot for a quick $100 bonus.   Huge thanks to JBT grad Jacob Smith and the team at Bowlero for their usual great hosting job.  Want in on all this action for all skill levels?  Just check out our schedule and come on down!

Sunday November 13, Results.

In a season defined so far by parity, two more bowlers won their first singles titles in tremendous JBT Arizona Conference action at Bowlero Tucson.

After qualifying, bowlers competed in 'pick your poison', where higher seeded bowlers get to choose who they want to play in head to head matches.  Sixteen scratch qualifiers were narrowed down to four, and in that round, GCU bowler Drew Merrell stopped Kayelyn Abigania, while Shane Smith of ASU beat Daunte Uribarri of GCU to set up another Antelope-Sun Devil title game.  In that final, both bowlers struggled with both leaving and making corner pins, but in the end Smith put it together faster to claim his first career singles title, and second overall JBT title, having won doubles with Matt Zweig previously.

The handicap semifinal matches were both very tightly contested, as top seed Evelynn Bollea edged RJ Pointon 225-222, and Cactus Mafia member Mason Stark squeaked by Peyton Lee 238-223, to set up a title match between two rookies.  The final became a war of attrition, and in the end Evelynn had just enough for a 193-183 win.  Her sister Kendall is already an all-time JBT great, and now she begins her winning journey with JBT title #1!

It was a weekend sweep in the subdivision events, as Katelyn Abigania beat Bollea for Girls Scratch, and Harper Schmidt also bested Kendall for U17.  Stark's day had already been great, as he nailed the '27' jackpot for a quick $100 bonus.   Huge thanks to JBT grad Jacob Smith and the team at Bowlero for their usual great hosting job.  Want in on all this action for all skill levels?  Just check out our schedule and come on down!
