Darin Thornton wins first title at Bowlero Via Linda!!! SFT News - Courtesy Of The SFT.

Scottsdale - - - This weekend's event was at Bowlero Via Linda and had a pretty good turnout.  We had a total of 89 entries (63 Qualifying & 26 Economy Parlay), 24 cashers, with a 1 in 3.7 cash ratio and paid out over $4,700.00 in main and side event prize funds.  The players bowled on a very tough 38ft Alcatraz oil pattern that had medium to low cut scores for most of the day. Most divisions took in the +30 range to advance, which means that they only had to bowl about 15-25 pins over average for the entire series, which is bowling a small amount over your average each game. The medium length pattern allowed players to play a variety of angles including down and in and deep inside angles.  The key to this shot was leaving makeable spares, so if you got it a little too far outside too early, then your ball would over hook for a split or if you got too far outside too late, then your ball roll out and leave a washout.

We would like to welcome Chris Berryman, Darin Thornton, Jason Dilworth, Michael Bagby, Sandra Pennington, Guy Pennington, Jason Hearn, Donald Morgan and Robert Minard to the Strikeforce Tour Family!  We hope you all enjoyed your first event and hope to see you again.  Congrats to Edward Lee and Sam Hsu for being this weekend's Parlay Power Players.  Ed and Sam were able to make it to the quarterfinals on only their $25 parlay investment.  Also, congrats to Brooke Carroll, Darin Thornton, Mark Yakich, Nick Peters, Brandon JohnsonKroman and Sam Hsu for making it to the quarterfinals for the first time or their first time in quite a while.  Also, congrats to Chad Clap for winning the ball raffle for a free plastic ball with an option to upgrade to any Track High Performance ball for $85.00!

The quarterfinals were on a fresh oil pattern and the scores were a bit lower because of it.  Being able to pick up your spares and bowl your average pretty much allowed you to move on to the semi-final round.  In the A Division, your #1 seed would be KJ Martinez (+57) and he would face off with #2 seed Eric Flick (-10).  In the B Division we would see #1 James Roethle (+102) versus newcomer Darin Thornton (+70) and finally the C Division leader was Mark Yakich (+23) and he would take on parlay power player Sam Hsu (-2).  The A Division semi-final would see Eric Flick opening in the last couple of frames to let KJ take the win, 213 to 182.  In the B Division Darin Thornton was able to double in the eight and ninth frames to defeat James Roethle, 203 to 176.

The C Division would be a nail biter with both bowlers going back and forth for the lead.  It would all come down to the final frame as Mark Yakich was able to spare and get good count on his fill ball to put some pressure on Sam Hsu.  Sam would need to mark and get good count to win.  Sam's first ball looked good off his hand but jumped off the spot to go through the head pin leaving the 3-6-7 split.  Sam would almost pick up the split pushing the 3-pin just in front of the 7-pin, but it wouldn't be enough as Mark would win, 214 to 211.

The Final match would see all three bowlers looking for their first AHT SFT title.  KJ had been throwing the ball well for most of the day and would clearly be the favorite going into the finals.  Newcomer Darin Thornton was making his Finals debut in his first event ever.  Mark had made the Finals before but was looking to get his first win.

The match would start off with KJ jumping out to an early lead as Mark and Darin would split in the first few frames.  Midway through the match and the lanes began to transition for KJ and Mark as they would both struggle on the right lane leaving splits and washouts.  Darin, who is left-handed, wouldn't have to deal with very much transition and would stay clean for most of the match and would ride his clean game all the way to end for his first AHT SFT title and $475.00.  Congrats to Mark Yakich on 2nd place and to KJ Martinez for 3rd place.

Unfortunately Darin wasn't in the progressive pot and only won half of the money that was set for first place, but he made plenty of new friends as the other quarterfinalists saw their checks increase as 100% of the progressive pot was redistributed to the bowlers that were in the progressive pot.

Thank you to everyone that came out to support the event this weekend.  We look forward to seeing you all next Sunday at Brunswick Mesa!  Have a great week!!!
