October 13, 2025
Tucson Metro Update
By Mark Kerr, President
Tucson - - - October is here, and the leagues in Tucson’s five active centers have taken to the lanes for all seven days a week!
It is great to see leagues back on the lanes, some resuming competition at PINZ Fiesta, after being closed due to storm damage. Speaking of PINZ Fiesta, on Sunday, September 14, Tucson Metro USBC held its first tournament of the 2025-26 season, the annual Welcome Back Tournament at PINZ, a special event since it was the first tournament held at PINZ since its reopening.
The Welcome Back tournament is a fun, no-tap event for all bowlers, including those who bowl in tournaments as well as those who may not bowl in tournaments and are interested in trying one out. Sixty-nine bowlers took part in this year’s Welcome Back, which offered gifts and cash prizes. Congratulations to Josh Quesnel, who won the tournament with an 898 for three games. Tucson’s bowlers and businesses came together for the 2025 Pay It Forward Tournament held September 20, at Bowlero Tucson.
Cory Knop, Proprietor of Ready to Strike Pro Shop, puts on this annual bowling fundraiser and tournament to raise funds for Tucson’s junior bowling programs. Cory and his tournament team, the business community, and Tucson’s bowlers raised $8,870, all of which will go to the junior bowling programs. Thank you Cory, Tucson’s businesses, and Tucson bowlers for helping the future of our sport in the Old Pueblo.
On Sunday, September 28, Tucson Metro USBC held its Challenge Shot Sweeper at Cactus Bowl, giving bowlers the opportunity to try the pattern, “Abbey Road,” that would be used for the Super Senior/Senior Masters Tournament on October 4-5. Tucson Metro USBC is the first bowling association to provide bowlers with a preview of the bowling pattern of a Master’s event prior. Bryanna Cote, PWBA Champion, U.S. Women’s Open and Tucson Metro USBC Hall of Famer, won the Sweeper with a 1129 (five games). Tucson Metro USBC Hall of Famer Dwight Burns was second with 1125.

BVL Event For Tucson Metro League Bowlers Starting Soon.
Tucson - - - This November, your weekly league bowling can make a difference beyond the lanes. Tucson Metro USBC is proud to host the 4th Annual BVL In-League Tournament, running November 8–22, 2025 — and every roll you throw helps support BVL (Brightening Veterans’ Lives), a national charity dedicated to improving the lives of veterans through recreation and community programs.
How It Works:
The best part? You don’t have to rearrange your schedule. The BVL In-League Tournament happens right in your regular league. Just sign up at your bowling center’s front desk, pay the $5 entry fee, and your scores from that league session will count toward the tournament.
$5 Entry Fee — $3 goes to the prize fund and $2 supports BVL.
$200 Guaranteed for 1st Place from Tucson Metro USBC!
Pins Over Average Format — everyone has a chance to win, no matter your skill level.
You can enter as many times as your leagues bowl between Nov 8 and Nov 22, and you can participate in every league you’re part of. Just turn in your score sheet after you bowl.
Why BVL Matters
Since 1942, BVL (Brightening Veterans’ Lives) has helped fund music and art therapy, adaptive sports, and recreational programs for veterans recovering in VA hospitals and community centers across the country. Every dollar helps bring a bit of joy and connection to those who served — and bowling has always been part of that mission.
Bowl. Compete. Give Back.
So grab your teammates, sign up at your league desk, and make your strikes and spares count for something even bigger this November. Together, Tucson’s bowling community can roll a few frames — and brighten the lives of America’s veterans.
Special thanks to Shawna Strause who has generously donated a Storm Bowling ball for us to give to a lucky participant.
