Kyle FB Post On Being Victorious.
"What a day started the morning with a last minute decision to bowl the US Open Qualifier at Golden Pin Lanes. I was able to come away with the win for an entry into the US Open this upcoming year! Shot 109 over on a very demanding Bear oil pattern. Threw the Storm Alpha Crux for the first two and the Roto Grip Halo for the rest of the games. Was a great way to end 2018 and hopefully can kick start the 2019 the right way. Great bowling to Jim Pratt finishing second it was cool to have Revolutions go 1-2. Thank you Keith Fung, Troy Blickenstaff for the support today even though we were competing."

Thank you to all of the Pony League bowlers who participated in our 36 lane salute in remembrance of Rick Smyth who passed away as a result of a work-related accident last week. Rick was an excellent bowler and an even greater person. All of us will miss his unique sense of humor and quick wit going forward. Our condolences to daughter Niki, son Jerry, and all of the immediate and extended Smyth family. Rick is a member of the Greater Anchorage (Alaska) USBC Hall of Fame, elected to the hall in the 2000-2001 season. He bowled for many years out of Big Lake, Alaska, Wasilla, Alaska and, more recently, the Phoenix, Arizona area after relocating with his family from Alaska to Arizona. Rick was a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) and bowled on the national tour in the late 1970s. He cashed and achieved the match play finals in the $60,000 Quad Cities Open, Plaza Bowl North, Davenport, Iowa in July 1977, finishing in 21st place in a tournament with 202 entries. He cashed in the $125,000 Showboat Invitational, Showboat Lanes, Las Vegas, Nevada, in January 1979, finishing 61st out of 396 entries. He placed fifth in the $700,000 American Dream Classic 1987, Sam's Town Bowling Center, Las Vegas, Nevada, earning a place on the televised finals for one of the richest payouts in bowling history. Well done Rick: On the lanes and in life!

Jim Winnie kicks off the 2019 season with first title at Brunswick Via Linda! SFT News. Courtesy Of SFT.
Our first event of the 2019 season was this weekend at Brunswick Via Linda. It was a standard three-squad event and had a pretty good turnout. We had a total of 85 entries (55 Qualifying & 26 Economy Parlay), 25 cashers, with a 1 in 3.3 cash ratio and paid out over $4,750.00 in main and side event prize funds. The players bowled on a very tough 39ft Kegel Beijing oil pattern that had low cut scores for most of the day. Most divisions took in the +20 range to advance, which means that they only had to bowl 10-20 pins over average for the entire series, which is bowling a small amount over your average each game. The medium length pattern allowed players to play a variety of angles including down and in and deep inside angles, but if you got it a little too far outside, then your ball wouldn't come back.
Congrats to Dan Quilt, James Winnie and Michael Sylve for making the quarterfinals for the first time in quite a while. Also, congrats to Sean Ashley for winning the ball raffle for a free plastic ball with an option to upgrade to any Track High Performance ball for $85.00!
The quarterfinals were on a fresh oil pattern and the scores were a bit lower because of it. Being able to pick your spares and bowl your average pretty much allowed you to move on to the semi-final round. After the quarterfinals, we had #1 seed Dan Quilt vs #2 seed Ron Gonzales in the A Division finals, #1 seed Steve Convirs vs #2 seed Brian Richardson in the B Division finals, and finally #1 seed Jim Winnie vs #2 seed Dan Lanious in the C Division finals.
In the semi-finals, Jim Winnie was able to string along enough strikes towards the end of the match to defeat Dan Lanious, 201 to 176. In the A Division, Dan Quilt was able to cruise pass Ron Gonzales, 208 to 173. The B Division was a very close match and it would all come down to the final frame. Brian Richardson had opened in the 7th and 8th frame to give Steve Convirs a chance to catch up. Steve needed two strikes in the tenth along with good count to advance. His first ball was right on the money and was able to double up and defeat Brian, 213 to 210 with handicap.
This would put all three #1 seeds into the final match. Steve Convirs was looking for his 2nd SFT title, while Dan Quilt and Jim Winnie were looking for their first ever titles. The match started off even between all three bowlers. Opens by Dan and Steve in the third frame gave Jim a slight advantage and he was able to capitalize by lining up and stringing strikes from the third to sixth frames. Dan and Steve had issues lining up and getting their ball to shape up on the left lane. Jim was able to stay clean for a nice 244 game, with handicap, getting him his first ever SFT AHT title and $750.00! Dan Quilt finished 2nd for $400.00 and Steve Convirs finished 3rd for $250.00.
Thank you to all the bowlers that came out for our first event of the 2019 season and we look forward to seeing you at our next event, on Sunday, January 13th at AMF Desert Hills!

Important PSA From Strike Force Tour.
As some of you may know, in our last Standard event of the 2018 season we had two participants (Person A & Person B) who were caught with scores that were higher than the scores they actually bowled. I want to make sure the AZ bowling community knows how this serious breach of rules and ethics was handled by us, so please read all the way through, as our reputation as an organization means a great deal to us.
On the day of the event, the initial incident occurred after squad 2. The tournament director for that event was informed of the situation as the squad completed. When initially confronted Person A informed us that the other person on the pair (who had correct scores) wrote the scores down, and Person B said they don't pay much attention and just sign/verify for their scores and that's it. At this point, there wasn't clear proof of INTENT and it was insinuated to be an honest mistake.
The tournament director investigated further into squad 1 scores and found that the same thing occurred. Additionally, after watching bowling center footage, discovered that Person A was writing down all of the scores and lied about that part. At this point, it was evident that person A had the intent to cheat and be untruthful. At this point, in the middle of squad 3, the tournament director made the decision to disqualify both players from that event. When confronted with the new evidence, Person A said they take full responsibility for the inaccuracies, and both people said that Person B wasn't aware of it and just initialed and verified for whatever was written down. At this point, both people were informed of the DQ and that the board of directors (tagged in this post) would determine the consequences moving forward.
All of the info and evidence was provided to the board in a short video, as well as the tournament director's opinion on the matter. There was a week of discussion of possible outcomes, and then a week of voting on those possible outcomes. With a total of 8 votes the board decided that Person A would be banned indefinitely from the SFT AHT, and that Person B would be suspended until 7/1/2019 (half of the season).
We hope that the AZ bowling community and our members know that this kind of violation will not be tolerated and that these kinds of infractions will be handled in a very objective and professional manner. In 2018 we had 45+ events, that averaged over 80 entries an event and a total payout of over $4k per event. That is a lot of bowlers and a lot of money, and we take it very seriously. We appreciate everyone's continued belief in our club over the last 7 years!
Sincerely,
The SFT AHT
