Gone, But Will Never Be Forgotten.
Tucson - - - Its hard to believe, but its been over a month now since Golden Pin Lanes in Tucson has closed its doors for good. We had only bowled in the center twice, but have had success there the two times we bowled in it. Having placed second in the AZ State Open Division B hdcp doubles event in 2018, with my doubles partner Scott Washburn. And rolling my first 500 series and 200 game there in the AZ State Open in May ( it has been 29 years since I rolled a 200 game and 500 series). We also wrote one of the last stories about the bowling center in June. After Shannon O' Keffe won the Tucson Open. The Tucson Open was held there on June 6-8. Its going to be really weird driving past the old bowling center site for the first time, after Pinal County converts the property into office space. The Tucson Open will return next April, and will be held at Lucky Strike Bowl. We only hope that those of you who had worked there, were able to find employment elsewhere. And find employment in the game of bowling. We would like to thank all of you for the great customer service that you provided for the bowlers in Arizona the last 59 years.

Ross Lyons gets 1st title at Bowlero Via Linda! SFT News - Courtesy Of SFT.
Scottsdale - - - This weekends event was at Bowlero Via Linda lanes and we had another solid turn out with 93 total entries (63 qualifying and 30 economy parlay). The players bowled on a very demanding 38ft Atlanta oil pattern that had extremely low scores. We had one of our all time lowest parlay winning scores in the B division, with -22 winning a free entry with progressive! The players played the lanes in a variety of angles, with some playing outside and some playing the deeper inside angles. It did seem that most of the players that did the best didn't have extreme left to right angles or extreme right to left angles. The average cut scores for the day were around +10 which meant the players didn't even need to bowl their average to win prizes at this event! Pretty crazy!
We had some new bowlers join us for this event! Let's welcome Jordan Potts, Zach Nesius, Dakota Templeton, and Richard Templeton to the SFT family! Thanks to each of you for giving the events a try and we hope you had a good time bowling in your first event. We also want to congratulate Jordan Potts, Thomas Darnell, Zach Masius and Harley Sweigart on making their first ever SFT AHT quarter finals! We also want to congratulate Nick Behorst on being today's Parlay Power Player. It's always cool to see players at every single event that are new, making their first quarters and/or having success through the economy parlay.
The quarter finals looked alot like the morning squad, which meant the scores were very low and spare shooting was a must. In the A division it only took +21 to advance to the semi finals, in B it took +13 and in C it took +54. In the A division, it was #1 seed Ross Lyons vs #2 seed Ron Gonzales. In B, it was #1 seed Michael Killgore vs #2 seed Larry Fairfield and in C it was #1 seed Nick Berhorst vs #2 seed Chuck Lucas.
The semi-final matches weren't that exciting in the B and C divisions with Killgore and Berhorst getting out to a quick lead and maintaining it. In the A division it was much more exciting finish with Ross Lyons getting up in the 10th frame with a chance to win the match, but needed the first two strikes in the 10th frame. He threw a great shot on the first one and struck and made some noise afterwards. He was pretty amped up and it was hard to tell if that was going to help or hurt him on his 2nd shot, but his 2nd ball was just as good which allowed him to move on to his first ever title match to win his first ever SFT AHT titile.
The final match started rocky for all 3 players with everyone having an open by the 2nd frame which is normally a good sign for the C division bowler. However, that was only the start of the game. However, by the middle to end of the game Killgore was ablet to stay clean, which was the key today. This gave him the lead going into the 8th, 9th and 10th frame. Sure enough, as he got the lead, he slowly let Ross back into the match. An open in the 8th and 9th from Mike and a double in the 8th and 9th from Ross allowed Ross to get back into the match. Ross finished first and had the chance to double in the 10th to shut Mike out, his first shot wasn't very good, but crossed over for a brooklyn strike. The second was still important to lock up the win and he over compensated missing to the right and and missing the head pin. This meant Killgore still had a chance at the win, he needed a double in the 10th! His first shot was a lot like Ross's, very much left off of his hand and heading to the brooklyn side. Mike's left the 6 pin but had a late messenger roller over, knudge the 6 pin and rock it a little bit..... but not knock it over. This gave Ross his first SFT AHT title and $800!
Thanks to everyone for coming out to the event today! We look forward to seeing you all at Glenfair lanes next Sunday!
