Andre Murillo gets his 2nd title at AMF Desert Hills!!! SFT News - Courtesy Of SFT.
Desert Hills - - - Our event this weekend was at AMF Desert Hills unfortunately we had a low turnout due to other tournaments running this weekend. We had 43 total entries with 26 qualifying entries and 17 economy parlay entries. We paid out just around $1,700.00 in main and side event prize funds for the event. The players bowled on a very tough 38ft Los Angeles that had low for the day. For the most part, players were trying to play outside or the deep the middle of the lane keeping their angles fairly tight. The key to this pattern was leaving makeable spares and then picking up your spares.
We want to quickly welcome our new bowlers that joined us for this event! Mike Ewing and Bryan Wiggins came out and bowled in their first SFT AHT event this weekend! It's pretty awesome to still see new faces coming out to give us a try! We hope all of you had a great time, and we look forward to seeing you next time! We had only one parlay power player in Carlos Vejar, which just goes to show you how tough this pattern was to bowl. Your winner of the free plastic ball drawing, with an option to upgrade to any Track high-performance ball for $85.00, was Timothy Satomba.
The quarterfinals were bowled the burned pattern as the house was unable to re-oil the lanes. Also, due to the fact that there were only 3 to 4 bowlers in each division, and the 1 in 3 cut ratio to the semi-finals only advanced 1 bowler per division. The top bowler in each Division would move straight into the Final match. The cut scores in the quarterfinals were really low and requiring bowlers to only bowl their average to advance as the Division Champion. The Division Champions were Carlos Vejar in the A Division at +10. Andre Murillo in the B Division would shoot an impressive +111 making him the #1 overall seed. Nick Berhorst would be your C Division Champion at +34.
The final match was an exciting one with all three bowlers throwing strikes back and forth at each other the entire game. It would all come down to the final frames as Carlos would chop the bucket leaving him to finish at 202. Next up would be Nick and had bowled a clean game so far, but he had caught a few breaks by tripping out the big four with the 6-10 falling late in the 6th frame. Nick would get up in the tenth and his first shot would go a bit high leaving the baby 3-10 split. Nick would chop the 3 and finish at 222. Andre would be the last to finish and would need to double to win. Andre would get up and throw an absolute crushing shot to get the first strike he needed. Now all the pressure would be on him to double and he wouldn't disappoint as he was able to get his ball to hold just enough to mix up the pins for the game clutching strike to finish at 229 and capturing his 2nd SFT AHT title! Congrats to Nick for bowling well and getting 2nd place and also congrats to Carlos on 3rd place!
Thanks to everyone for coming out today! We look forward to seeing you in two weeks at Bowlero Avondale. Be sure to check out the MEGA Demo next weekend at either AMF Union Hills on Saturday or at AMF McRay on Sunday!
