Looking To Fill Team Rosters

Ballbusters Women's Bowling League, Needing To Fill Vacancies Prior To The Start Of Its Second Season

Organizational Meeting Will Take Place On Monday August 29, At 6:30 PM, At Mesa East Bowl

Mesa - - - So, you say you are a female, and your Monday evenings are dull and boring. And, the last thing you want to do is being stuck at home watching Monday Night Football with your husband.

Well, thetenpinexpress.com has news on how you can turn your Monday evenings around from being dull and boring. To actually havinng fun.

The Ballbusters Women's bowling league who are entering their second season at Mesa East Bowl, are looking for a few good women to help fill the vacancies they have coming up.

Mesa East Manager Ericka Swarze first approached Cindy, and said she wanted to start a ladies league on Monday evenings and asked her if she could help make this become a reality. The bowlers who made up the team rosters of its inagural season, were comprised of members from the Majorettes League at Brunswick Zone Gilbert. Other members also came from all over the valley to join the league, to help make it a successful begining.

"I was thrilled that the inagural season had 11 teams. With little expsoure and advertisement. I believe we did amazing in gathering as many women as we did," said Cindy. "That just goes to show that there are women out there, who love the sport."

By being a new sanctioned league, it did come with some growing pains as well.

"Some of the growing pains we had, were new bowlers getting familiar with responsibilities and expectations as a member of a league, and a team," she said, on getting a new league on the floor. "All of our new bowlers were very open to learning and were excited to be part of the league."

The new things that will be coming to the Ballbusters league this year, is a calendar of events from collecting BVL funds to continuing to do a Mystery Doubles tournament. The league will be 'Bowling for Tatas' in February in honor of breast cancer awareness. The league is also currently seeking donations to give as incentives for its bowlers.

"Leaving the previous house was not hard. Leaving a league that I loved being a part of, was the hard part, which was the Majorettes," she said, on the transition to a new center. "If I could convince those ladies to join us, it would be amazing!

"During season two, we hope to accomplish a few things," she added. "One, a full league that consists of a five women team roster. And two, women to continue to support one anothers bowling accomplishments. By participating in more: local, city, state, and national tournaments."

Judy Gurney led the league with a high average of 202. Shelley Dickens had the high series in the league last year with a 702. And, Anna Coor posted her highest game ever, witha 266. Cindy says the beauty of the new league was, not the person who had the high average, but the range of averages the new league had. The averages ranged from a high of 202, to an average as low as 91.

"We had a great response to the league. I think the word got out what a great time we have, so it has been great to have more ladies want to join the league," she says, of the feedback she received. "My whole objective for this league was to get as many ladies back into the sport. Introduce new ladies to the sport, and retain those veterans. Its all about increasing membership and enjoyin the company of those who love the sport of bowling."

When the first season came to an end this past May, all of the ladies commented on what a great time they had in the league. Each of them also left with a significant amount of prize money. That was attributed to the support each lady had for the league, as well as the 'Girl Watchers' supporting their 50/50 as well. It was a mutual support system during the course of the 2015-16 season. The ladies were all sad to see the season end, and even contemplated having the Ballbusters joining a summer league. They all decided to debrief this summer, and work on this year's fall league to make it even better.

"Last year, was a year of injury for me. I have been suffering from severe tendinitis, and bowling was extremely difficult. It was especially hard because I have high expectations for myself, and being able to be a contributor to my team," said the 2015 MMA Scratch Division A Champion. She won the title with a 707 scratch series at AMF McRay. She also captured the handicap crown with a 860. "I would also like to thank my teammates: Judy Gurney, Jennifer Hubbell, Dawn Johnson, and Edith Finn for supporting me through last season. They convinced me to tak the summer off to heal up. I am hoping to have a better season this year."

Cindy and her daughter-in-law Haylee Coor, also won a MMA handicap doubles event with a score of 1,493. The tournament was held at Brunswick Kyrene in 2010.

The organizational meeting for the 2016-17 Ballbusters league is set for Monday August 29, at 6:30 pm. For more information contact the league at Ballbusters2016@mpsaz.org.
