Joseph Herring Inducted Into the Arizona State Hall of Fame

Arizona State USBC Bowling Association has chosen Joseph Herring, of Tucson, for their Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service. His induction was at the Annual Meeting on March 14, 2021, at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino Resort in Maricopa, Arizona. Congratulations to Joseph on this well-deserved and prestigious achievement!

Joseph Herring and his wife, Leyda, have lived in Tucson since 1973. He has been an active member of the Tucson Bowling Association/Tucson Metro USBC for over 40 years. During this time, he has devoted countless hours of his time to bowling and the promotion of bowling without hesitation. He always displays a true love for bowling, not only helping others, but growing the sport.

Shortly after becoming a certified bowler, Joseph’s service legacy began when he was elected president of his bowling league. A positive attitude and communication skills with bowlers of all ages led to his becoming a Junior Bowling Coach for the past 35 years at Tucson Bowl. He has been a very committed coach each and every Saturday morning without hesitation. When High School bowling was introduced in Arizona, Joseph was asked to coach at Palo Verde High School in Tucson, and he eagerly accepted the challenge. As years went by, he also coached teams at Sahuaro High School and Cienega High School as well.

Joseph was elected to the Tucson Bowling Association as a Director, and served in that capacity 14 years before becoming Vice President (4 years) and then President of the local association. As President of the Tucson Bowling Association, he was very instrumental in the merge of American Bowling Association and Women’s International Bowling Congress to United States Bowling Congress.

He was elected to the Arizona State USBC Board of Directors in 2006, and has served as a Youth Director from the time of the merge until the present time. A reliable volunteer to work any tournament, he is also responsible for professional photography at tournaments, Jamborees, annual meetings, and events, both locally and state-wide. He said, “It is an honor to see the happiness when they see their pictures that I have taken.” In 2008, Joseph was inducted into the Tucson Bowling Association Hall of Fame, Meritorious Service Division.

Joseph has been the Youth Coordinator for Tucson Bowl for the past two years. In that capacity, he is responsible for overseeing the Youth Bowling Program, including coaching, coordinating local and state tournaments, and individual youth bowling development and achievement.

Joseph Herring has dedicated many years to bowling, and he is always willing to accept any task in any area. He has certainly distinguished himself in the promotion and betterment of the Sport of Bowling on both the local and state level.
