Two Lopes Collect 1st Team CTBCA All-American Honors - Courtesy Of GCU.

Phoenix - - - Lopes' senior Mathew Adragna and freshman Nick Barrieault led an impressive list of bowlers from the GCU Bowling team to earn postseason honors from both Club Team Bowling and the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association for the 2021-22 season. Adragna and Barrieault both earned 1st Team Club Team Bowling Coaches Association All-American honors, which meant that not only were they among the top 30 bowlers in the nation (to be eligible for a CTBCA All-American award), they were among the top five to earn 1st team honors.

"Out of the personal awards, I'd say that Club First Team All-American means the most to me," said Adragna. "Going into this year, I worked as hard as I could to give myself the best shot to help the team win."

Adragna also received a West Coast All-Star award for being one of the top five bowlers based off west coast-only events.

"I focused on my mindset and set goals that were obtainable but extremely difficult to achieve," said Adragna. "I couldn't have done any of it without my teammates and coaches, who continued to push me to be the best I could be."

The Lopes also received 12 National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete awards (3.5 cumulative grade point average or higher), which was one shy of last year's record high.

"It is great for our program that we had 12 of our athletes receive this award," said Lopes' Head Coach Ben Canfield. "It is not an easy accomplishment, which is why I think it is something that should be celebrated."

With all their success in the 2021-22 season, the Lopes look to continue to build a culture of success.

"7 team wins, 2 first team club all-Americans, multiple individual tournament winners - let alone several all-tournament teams - represents what GCU has been building towards for a while," said Adragna. "We, as a team, built a foundation for success that will outlast any one person this year, and it means a lot to me to contribute to something bigger than just my bowling career."
