Tucson Metro USBC Update
By Mark R. Kerr – President
Tucson - - - The new bowling year has begun for your Tucson Metro USBC Board and we are hard at work, planning for the upcoming and expanded, 2022-23 tournament season. We are also excited that the Arizona State USBC will be holding two tournaments this year in the Old Pueblo, and we look forward to assisting when and wherever possible.
Your Tucson Metro USBC Board is there for you, our entire Tucson bowling family, young and the young at heart. We have gone through our first year as a group, working together, holding the tournaments and sweepers, handing out the awards and recognizing record scores bowled, as well as honor scores by Tucson league bowlers and those competing in our tournaments
Your Tucson Metro USBC Board works to get the word out on all bowling events being held in Tucson in addition to the Tucson Metro USBC tournaments.
About our tournaments, we learn a lot from holding these tournaments and are using the suggestions and making changes for the upcoming season. We will review the tournaments again this year and continue to make adjustments as needed.
I am proud to report that during this past season, your Tucson Metro USBC Board was under budget and we are planning to pay it forward to our Tucson bowling family during the 2022-23 season. Your Tucson Metro USBC local fees remain at $9 for the 2022-2023 season.
The question has been asked, ‘What does Tucson Metro USBC do for me, the bowler?’ We provide our bowling family the opportunity to take part in scheduled tournaments; transmit league averages for bowlers who take part in sanctioned leagues to Bowl.com, coordinate with USBC and Bowl.com to answer questions and resolve disputes; provide league packets for Secretaries of sanctioned leagues; recognize honor scores and work with USBC on national honor score recognition. We attend the State and National Conventions where we represent Tucson bowling.
Also, to note, we provide a fun, positive experience for you, our Tucson bowling family. We do a lot for the $9 fee. For more information on Tucson Metro USBC, please call (520) 591-0622, E-mail: am@tucsonmetrousbc.com.
Roy Lawson Mixed Doubles – August 28: The Roy Lawson Mixed Doubles Tournament, a no-tap and scotch doubles, four game event, will take place Sunday, August 28, at Cactus Bowl, 3665 S. 16th Avenue. Check in is at 12:30 pm and bowling begins at 1 p.m.
Before he moves back east, Tucson Hall of Famer Mickey Hagler will be the Director for the Roy Lawson tournament and your Tucson Metro Board looks forward to assisting Mickey and hopes our fellow bowlers take part to say thanks to Mickey for his service to our bowling community.
Tucson Metro USBC Welcome Back Sweeper September 11: Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 11, 1:00 p.m., for Tucson Metro USBC’s Welcome Back Sweeper to take place at Tucson Bowl. More details in the next edition of this update.
Ready to Strike 2nd Annual Pay-It-Forward Wipeout Tournament, September 17: On Saturday, September 17, 1:00 p.m., the Second Annual, Pay-It-Forward Wipeout Tournament will take place at Bowlero, 114 S. Camino Seco. Cory Knop, owner and proprietor of Ready to Strike and James Kraykovich, worked to put on this event to benefit the future of our sport, youth bowling in Tucson. The inaugural event raised more than $3.000 for Tucson’s youth bowling programs and they are working hard to top last year’s figures with Pay-It-Forward 2022. Let’s help Cory, James and our Tucson youth bowlers by taking part in the tournament, buying raffle tickets or donating. For more information, call (520) 719-9821 or message Cory Knop on Facebook. Tucson will Pay-It-Forward!
Bowl for the Cure at Cactus Bowl October 16: Bowl for the Cure in Arizona takes place October 15th and 16th. Tucson’s Bowl for the Cure is Sunday, October 16th at Cactus Bowl.
Hope everyone is having a great Summer and look forward to seeing you on the lanes!
